Punto Evo potential ECU failure
Hello Ladies & Gents.
Potentially MASSIVE issue with my 60 plate Punto EVO Sporting (135) ECU.
Car broke down without warning last week after I had filled it up with petrol. Warning lights flashing (Steering, no start stop, no engine cut off etc etc), before cutting out & displaying the "Vehicle protection" light. Breakdown service unable to restart/reset the car. Towed to my local Fiat dealership who have been "working" on diagnosing the issue since Thursday. They seem quite cagey and have mentioned they are carrying out "several tests" before "ordering a new expensive ECU" (!!!)
I'm the second owner (purchased from a dealer (not Fiat) in July 2014). It has all its relevant Fiat servicing completed (as confirmed by the dealership who is currently working on it) and only 18,500 miles on the clock. Needless to say it is out of warranty. At that mileage & age the ECU shouldn't have failed & I don't think I should be liable to pay for a replacement.
I was wondering if anyone else has come across this problem?
Has anybody else had to refer a issue to Fiat about faulty parts out of warranty & how successful will I be at getting Fiat to extend a bit of good will?
Thanks in advance.
