Hi Guys

Issue: Water leaking from car.

Observations: The windscreen washer reservoir is draining, there is a dripping leak coming from underneath the car just behind the engine bay. The fluid is not oil and not coolant. The water leakage is more pronounced when the engine is running.

Questions: can anyone make suggestions as to what part of the water delivery system is faulty? Does the the rear windscreen washer delivery system run down the centre of the car in this location?

It's definitely the windscreen washer fluid as the reservoir keeps draining. Im just wonder which part of the system would be leaking behind the engine bay.

We need more information really. It could simply be just rain water. There is a small pipe at the back of the engine bay where the water drains down from the screen. Open the bonnet and pour water on the screen, and check. This is normal, although it doesn't look too good with water going everywhere. There was a recall on this I believe, to do with alternators going bang when the pipe wasn't fitted.

If it's not coming out of the drain, it could be the scuttle. I had an issue with it before. Water was draining underneath the scuttle rather than over it, causing the back of the engine bay to be soaked when it rained. It was caused by Autoglass when they replaced the windscreen. I called them back again to fit a new scuttle and it they were more than happy to sort it F.O.C. I even put a tiny slither of sealant between the edges to make sure that it definitely flows over and not under.

Or it could be A/C drain. Do you have the AC on? Is it more prominent when it's humid?

Like I say, more info required. There isn't many different fluids within the Punto. Oil, coolant, brake fluid, wash fluid. AC if you have it. It has EPS so no power steering fluid. My guess is it's rainwater that's been hiding, has now found a way out.

I've a 2010 Evo and have the same problem.
If you look down beside the filler pipe, you'll see that the pipe goes into the reservoir through a large black seal. On mine the water comes out of the seal till the level drops to that point and then remains stable
It's to much hassle mess about with till I have to get my hand down at a later date.

Thanks for the suggestions. It hasn't rained for a week so its not rain water or the scuttle.

Like I said the screen wash reservoir is draining at the same time so im 99% sure this is where the water is coming from. I wanted to know if any water piping that is serviced by this reservoir passes down the centre of the car behind the engine bay and would drip onto the floor from here.

FIXED FIXED FIXED

thanks for the information guys you helped me piece it together. It was in fact the AC overflowing. The weather has changed to be cooler (wetter) lately and I was still running the AC because I like it cool in the car. The extra condensation was overflowing out of the outlet. I ran the car for a few days without AC and no more leaks.

As for the windscreen reservoir - one of the posters above was right, it leaks out of the necks seal until it levels off.
