Hello.

I'm owner of a 2010 Punto Evo 1.4 77hp.

Most of the times I start the car the red steering wheel light stays on and the message is "Have power steering checked see handbook". The car is not in guarantee anymore. Does anyone knows what this might be and how to be fixed?

Thank you.

PS: Sorry for my English. It is not my native language.

Hello, and welcome to FF

 use the FCR port , to read fault codes of the electric power steering systems ECU,

1st - I would get the engine battery checked, at 4 years old it could be failing ( the PAS uses LOTS of power), :(

Thank you for the reply!
It turned out my car was produced in march 2010 and first sold and registered april 2011.
The diagnosis said unable to calibrate but will double check it.

My battery died today, so guess this was the problem. Will replace it in few days and will see what happens.

Got a new battery today. Will drive it few days and will tell what happens.

The power steering still lights up sometimes on ignition. Will scan it hopefully soon and will tell.

Hi,

I own a 2010 Fiat Punto Evo GP 1.4 8v.
AdViSoRa did you manage to fix this problem?

I have the same problem with my car, the power steering lights up on ignition with the warning message 'Have power steering checked see handbook' and the light goes off as soon as you turn the steering wheel. No warning messages or light appears while you drive it till the next time you start the car.

Also noticed something, the light only seems to come on when the car is started with the steering wheel positioned straight. The warning light doesn't seem to appear when i start with the steering wheel turned either side.

PS - recently had the battery replaced with the Exide EL600

Thank you

Hi,
Most likely a poor connection causing insufficient current on start-up,
what is the rating of the new battery..??

Charlie
Hi, Thanks for your reply varesecrazy

I should have mentioned this before, this problem persisted before the battery was replaced. i thought it might have been the battery causing it because the battery previous battery was about 4.5 years old and my start/stop system had stopped working.

The new battery Exide EL600 is a 60Ah start/stop battery. read some other threads on fiatforum and this was the battery everyone recommended.

Thanks

I still hadn't fixed the problem. It goes on sometimes, sometimes no. When i could afford to stay for a week without a car, I would put it in to find the problem.

Hey gaz127

Not yet. As it is not really affecting the drive in any way, i am just living with it for the moment. Please do let me know if you found a solution.

Thanks
