The other day, the display flashed up "Check The Brake Pads" with a little picture of a wheel on the MFD. Brakes seem fine. Repeated this all that day. But now has gone away, no message after many more trips.

Having only done 27,000 kms and also being someone who doesn't slam the brakes at all, I am a little confused.

An iffy sensor do you think? Or just a hiccup?

I'd advise actually looking at them... Whether they work or not doesnt really matter. If the light has come on, I'd be checking and kicking up with the garage as they haven't been servicing your car right
