No more Evo, just Punto from 2012

Hi guys

I'm soon to take delivery of a Punto Evo Sporting and my partner collects his new Evo Dualogic on Thursday.

Its come as a bit of a surprise that whilst looking at the new Panda info on the Fiat Press site I've noticed that Fiat plan to drop the Evo name, remove the front grille (mouth) and the rear bumper trim to make it more Grande in appearance.

I guess this is to address the fact that the Evo has lost many sales over the previous car. It will also, apparently have the TwinAir engine (as a stand alone model) and have a revised range consisting of Pop, Easy and Lounge ?!?! No mention of the Sporting, but I presume the TwinAir will somehow fit in as it has with the 500??

I can't say I'm surprised that they've had to address the looks as some people (previous Grande owners mainly) really took objection to its looks.

I, however quite like the Evo. This new car seems more like a photo shopped Grande and the interior pics of the TwinAir show some cheap looking fabrics.
Still there are some new colours on the way.

Re: No more Evo, just Punto from 2012

I wonder if this will be another facelift or a completely new model. Bearing in mind the Grande Punto was launched here at the start of 2006, it ought to be a completely new model, based on the previous generation Puntos lifespans.

Personally the Evo has grown on me. The Grande Punto is a good looking car but the Evo isn't THAT bad. The interior of the Evo is hugely better than the ice-cream tub-esque Grande aswell.

Re: No more Evo, just Punto from 2012

I just saw the pictures on facebook, I can't say its really a surprise they've changed it as it had a ton of complaints for going from a maserati-style front end to a crossed eyed puppy, and personally I thought the bumper inserts were silly, And it seems the removal of the has minimized the puppy look.

No doubt they'll do Sporting & Eleganza models - probably just waiting for the event to show them off properly but no doubt it'll all be the same spec etc with the addition of a twinair.

Really like the look of the new Punto - a return to the elegance of the original design.

They've ditched the chrome strip on the bonnet, and colour-matched the new squigy bits on the front and rear bumpers. The new-style side rubbing-strips seems to have gone too. (Perhaps because they don't stay stuck on.)

The top half of the grill seems larger, but I'm not sure.

The range in Italy for the Punto Evo and the Grande Punto before it differed greatly to what we got here in the UK.

I'd guess we'll get a UK-style line-up when the revised model reaches our shores.

LOL- that's really going to screw up the Forum sections.

So now there'll be Punto, Grande Punto, Punto Evo, and, err... Punto 2012?

People post in the wrong sections as it is!

Looks more like a hasty facelift with a bit of colour-coding and revised engine/transmission options rather than a fully "fresh from the ground-up" model. I suspect it be a test-bed to iron-out any issues with putting the TwinAir in a bigger/heavier model before a truely "New" Punto comes out.

I'm not really sure if this is good or bad news, especially since I only ordered my new Punto Evo Dynamic on Monday

Maybe this is just me but I don’t think it catches the classic looks of the Grande, it also looks more dated than the current Evo. Perhaps its just not as photogenic…
