Hi all,

I am thinking of buying a 2014 plate 500L 1.6 diesel multijet. My local mechanic, a Fiat specialist, has given me the heads up on this particular car and says that it should already have 3 services done and be halfway to its fourth. It has 41000 miles on the clock. He reckons its every 12 months

The promo video say this model needs a service every 21000 miles.

Does anyone know what is accurate here? I don't have access to a manual.

Cheers

Hi my handbook says oil change at 18,000 miles though the cars brain knows it's oil degridation which depends on how the car is driven and will put up a warning in the dash (change oil).

The diesel engines have to have a service and oil & filter every 2 years / 21,000 miles, but should be done sooner if the 'oil degraded' warning appears - this doesn't seem to happen often on Fiat diesels.

However, Fiat introduced an annual 'inspection' in mid-2014 - most UK 64 plates and some 14 plates will be on this new schedule but you need to check the servicing manual to confirm. The inspections do not include an oil/filter unless the owner paid extra.

If the car you're looking at is on the new frequency it should've had an inspection in 2015 or at 12,000 miles (whichever came first), then a full service with oil & filter change in 2016 & 21,000 miles (whichever came first) and then another inspection sometime this year. If it's on the old schedule it should've had a full service in 2016 or at 21k miles, and will be due another full service at 42,000 miles or 4 years - in this case it's going to be at 42k as it's nearly there already.
