Hi,
can some one tell me some signs of when you know your head gasket is going? Would the oil leask out of the eingine block?
Thanks Dave, (sorry bout spelling)

there are various signs the obvious ones are

loads of white smoke/steam from exhaust but you cant miss that one :D

take of oil filler cap look for cream colourd mayonaise on inside. (coolant leaking into oil)

also take off coolant cap check inside make sure ts clean and not sludgy brown (oil leaking into water)

oil can also leak from engine block but that aint as serious allthough on news cars yo may want sorted. but most of my old cars has had oil leaks alltough they are normally from the cam cover seal rather than the head gasket bit. i just leave them if its only minor,

these things tend to happen after gasket has gone though.

Top reply, thanks very much! (y)
Think mine is ok then! thanks you :D (y) :)

Check your coolant as well cos' this will rapidly go down each week or two.

Thanks very much all of you, oh were is my coolant? got y reg mk 2? :D

As you look in the engine bay my coolant bottle is on the LHS but is the HGT different? no doubt someone will correct me :) it has a plastic screw-top on it :D

You can also check by taking the water filler cap off and seeing if you can smell exhaust fumes in the water.
