when i put my foot on the clutch it stays down though usually pops back up. i've WD40'd the pedal mechanism and i'm assuming it's just that or something. but just to check this isn't an indicator of something happening?

Mine doesn't have a slave cylinder, it's a direct linked cable to clutch release arm.Check the slave cylinder on top of the gearbox to see if is leaking.....

Which model Tipo uses hydraulics?
Hydraulic clutch has a slave cylinder on the release arm, and a master cylinder attached to the clutch pedal. Either could be at fault, and indeed, have had both leak and do the sticking pedal syndrome.
