For the last couple of years I've used price comparison sites which log the quote with the company so I can then phone them up and wrangle the price down a little extra, and still retain meerkat soft toy privileges

Yeah as mentioned above, use known comparison sites and a few others, then phone the company direct and haggle a bit more.

Always online first, get a load of quotes

Then phone up my insurer, ask them to match them. if they do then great, if not then just switch, switching to an insurer is so easy these days too!

I just go online and pick the cheap one and pay for it so I can have my Meerkat. Only problem is now I have started a collection and have to get the others lol

If you're price focused then it is, but its not so easy if you actually know what you want cover for and read the small print and find out whats excluded on some cheaper policies.

Good point. I do always check what it covers. I have breakdown cover separate and although things like key cover would be handy it's not a deal breaker. I do always try and get legal assistance with my policies though, just in case

I have been with Direct Line for years and it always went up. Only by say 2% or so. Last year I started to look in Go Compare as I want a new Meerkat :) A few weeks later my renewal came in and got a discount to match the cheapest on the meerkat site. Direct line say they don't use comparison sites but I am sure the monitor them. Ill be doing the same this year to see if it happens again.

They'll probably monitor general competition, all company's regardless of business type normally do this, but you've got to remember there is normally a good reason they're not on aggregator websites, for the same reason some other companies aren't also.

It could be a coincidence as i turned 50 during this years policy so it was either old git discount or for the reason mentioned. Either way i still want another meerkat:D I change my bike policy every year as i seem to get a better discount being a new member. The 2nd year has always been dearer. Its been like that for the past three years.

its alright using online to get a cheap car insurance policy but lots of them screw you on car changes to the point of theft
dont go to the ombudsman as he will tell you hes helpless as the detail of what you bought was in the small print
i speak to many people who regret going cheap on the net
be warned
as for those puppets
grief:eek:

Seem to recall the one that comes up cheapest for me alot (Hastings) charge a 50 quid administration fee for any changes.

I tend to go online shop for the cheapest acceptable cover then go to current provider and get them to match it over the phone.

Greenlight has come up tops for me over the past couple of years, and seem to know what they're talking about. Used to go with Adrian Flux, but they've tried to screw me over every year on their renewal prices, until, surprise surprise, I've found it cheaper elsewhere.

Hi,
Just to let you know that our best rates are always over the phone. We have a far wider selection of products available this way compared to on-line.
Regards,
Dan.
