So, on the back of @Ziggy122 's 'When are you putting your winter tyres on' poll/thread; I thought it might be useful for other members to share which Winter Tyres they are using, why, how much to spend, etc...

Me, I've just ordered 4x Continental Conti Winter Contact TS850 from Camskill @ £55/corner; delivered.

Why ? I researched various different tyres, weighed up the pros & cons, price, etc, and these came out on top. Closely followed by Bridgestones Blizzak M32

These won pretty much all of the top tyre tests, and seem pretty innovative.

Anyone else care to share ?

Im with Uniroyals - as there a sister company to michelin :)

Uniroyals are know as the "rain tyre", getting good reviews for better wet driving them dry driving sometimes

I also went with them because they were cheap - and according to the vague EU label they are just as good in the wet or better then many other brands of Winter tyre

Whatever I can find in a 145/80-13 for a classic Panda 4x4. Not much coice in the UL. Ended up with Sava Eskimo S2 Silica last year - fine even all summer !

WHAT WINTER?(y)

november in 10 days

november 2011

"1st to 5th:
The first few days were unsettled with bands of rain and heavy showers crossing most parts. Over 20 mm fell across much of the south-east from 0900 on 3rd to 0900 on 4th, with 56 mm at Alice Holt Lodge (Hampshire). However temperatures remained well above average, with maxima around 17 °C reported widely on 3rd.
6th to 12th:
A change to more settled conditions with high pressure becoming established to the east of the UK. An air frost occurred in northern areas overnight 6th/7th, with the temperature falling to −6.1 °C at Redesdale (Northumberland). Conditions were rather cloudy for most, with dense fog patches developing across many central and eastern areas. Weather fronts tried to push in from the west by 9th, bringing rain to the south-west. Similar conditions on 10th, 11th and 12th with outbreaks of rain remaining mainly in the west and cloud and fog in the east. Despite this, temperatures remained well above average."

so by the time winter tyres ordered now are delivered and fitted it could be down to below freezing

dave, that weather forecast is from 2 years ago :D

I think I'm going to get mine fitted end of next week as evening / overnight temps are going to be consistently ~4-8 deg... and I'm generally out and about late on / at nights.

I think I'm going for Avon Ice Touring ST's, fronts on mine are ditchfinders and fairly worn, plus they will be doing a track day(y), so will replace them with those and then get some summers later on and store the Avon's somewhere. The one downside to 18" wheels, expensive tyres.(n)

Uniroyal are a sister company of Continental.

I've just had 2 Continental TS850's (£99ea.fitted) on the front axle to clear the water with the directional tread pattern and 2 TS830p(£114ea.fitted) asymmetrical pattern for lateral grip on the back end. 205/55 R16

and boy do they grip no more wandering, fidgety handling from they Goodyear Energy saver tires that were fitted when i bought the car in June. tracks straight with nice feel from the steering.

Used to put conti's on my dispatch van they were by far the best tire i ever tried (bridgestone, toyo's,Khumo's) giving a good balance of grip and feed back with good wear.

Highly Recommended.(y)
