What happened?!

Did you own it for many years prior to this and was it always well serviced?

No, it was a worn down piece of **** from the beginning.
It recently chose to spit out the headgasket, and the car is so rusty and ill-treated in any way, that repair is not an option.

I have a story about it.
http://www.fiatforum.com/members-mot...oor-punto.html

The irony is, that just two days before it broke down, I was beginning to look for a replacement
Because it had MOT in about two month and would not make it.

I wasnt nervous about a 1.2 8v as far as km's, but buying a used car is always a lottery, especially when it has to be as cheap as possible.
It's been driving for a year without engine problems (about 30000km's), so didnt see this comming.

Now I'm in a "new" mk2 Punto, without rust and with low milage and a looked after interior.
Only little things to fix, as I desribe in the above link :-)

Sounds like a horrible shock!

Glad to hear you're on the rebound now with a newer Punto!

Hope all stays well!

So its not really dead then, as a new HG and it'll be good for many more miles TBH. You've just decided not to repair it for your own reasons.

Yes, the engine would be ok with a new HG, but I would do the crank-bearings as well, regarding the age of the engine...
And with all the bushings (really ALL) neding replacing and lots of rust, it's not a way to go, to put a lot of work and money in it.

The new Punto is not in perfect shape, but it's healthy and with rustarea's I can manage to handle, if I get it rust-protected as quick as possible (gives me time to fix things along the way).
Giving it a new left wing, next spring (2017), when I find a good one in Grigio Orione.

Thanks for all your remarks !
