| Ace new album 15/09/2009 | Re: Would you help a broken down motorist? The answer is yes, especially a fellow FIAT owner. However, the problem these days is if its a women, then no. This is two fold, firstly they would be scared of me (big hairy biker type - me not the women) and second, the world has gone mad and anything could be said or any sort of accusation made. Mind you this goes for anyone really, if you stop are you going to get mugged, have your motor nicked etc. So on that basis I would stop to help a biker out and someone who displays the www,FIATForum.com logo in their car. Mind you, what can you do these days, electronics rule

I clicked yes, but it all depends where it is and if i think i could help... i know little about cars (im in the learning process) i am confident doing the basic repairs on my own car... There was a car broken down at the end of our road, he was having trouble starting.... so i stopped and gave him a jump start and let him phone someone on my phone, he gave me £5

I do volunteer my assistance, I do travel a lot in the countryside and tend to have a tool kit in the boot. However, most people in need have either a puncture and clean clothes on, so don't want to get dirty, or they have driven for 50 miles with the oil or temperature light on so thing is toast anyway. I am offered tips, but always refuse. Never found a fit horny milf needed 'assistance' yet, unfortunately. Cheers SPD

When I finally got to the blockage there was a car in the middle lane that had broken down. A lorry driver stopped in L1 and got out to push so I stopped in L2 and helped shove the broken car onto the hard shoulder. I couldn't believe how many people had driven past and left her there.

| | Re: Would you help a broken down motorist? a qualified "yes", first and foremost being safety, can i park so as not to endanger myself, or others? does the driver look like a psycho? do i have the tools/ability to render meaningful assistance? sometimes it's been just pushing a stranded car out of the road, onto the pavement, etc. it has to be said though, those have always been for female drivers...... other times they have needed a jump start, and the paj always has a set of leads in the boot. for work, it's generally a lot easier, and can use the car/van with lights to fend off, esp on fast roads, but can't actually do any work on the vehicle itself.

There's an unclassified road in between Evenley (Northants) and a village called Charlton (west off the A43) that I have known people to stop and offer assistance, particularly in the night hours, haven't been down that road for a few years, mind. I would stop and offer assistance and make sure the driver and passengers were ok; i.e. if someone got stuck in a snow storm and the heating packed up, I'd offer them a blanket or something from my car. If people were going to be rude to me for stopping I would simply get in the car and drive off. But if someone would be polite about it then, yep, I'm no mechanic, but I'd stop if it was safe for me to do so without causing an obstruction and get out and make sure they were ok.

| | Re: Would you help a broken down motorist? To be honest I can't decide what to vote. I'd love to say I'd stop but it's just not worth the risk these days! I think if I was in the middle of nowhere I'd stop and help, main road or built up area - they can fend for themselves. But as mentioned earlier most cars these days are toast on the side of the road, the days of bodging a fan belt from string or repairing a hose with gaffa tape seem to be long gone. Then if you do a temp repair for someone - in 6 months when there engine chucks it's oil everywhere or the exhuast falls off, it's bound to be your fault!
