Easy peasy, have a good look and you'll see, not really worth describing it.

God I am useless at tinkering with cars....

How do you get the cable into the glove compartment? I have the cable attached to the rear of the head unit but am clueless as to how to get it into the glove compartment??

Don't worry, I sorted it. Got the garage around the corner to do it and fit my new headlights and sidelights. £15 cash....sorted!:slayer:

I'm not sure if this will be a massive help or not, but here's my thread when I did it:

https://www.fiatforum.com/panda-new/125493-connecting-mp3-wma-player-through-cd-changer.html

On the top of the head unit there is a wiring diagram and really it's fairly easy to 'test fit' the wires to make sure you've got it connected right. Obviously don't push the connectors fully home until you have tested it, but we (well my other half!) have done it on both of my panda's now. It's very nearly self explanatory once you look at the wiring diagram.

There are only 3 wires IIRC so a bit of trial and error ought to not take too long.

HTH.

Let us know if it works and how much hassle it is as I really need to sort mine out....The FM transmitter was super crackly at the weekend :(

It definately works, have done this to both my pandas. Nothing particularly fiddly about it either. Think it took my other half about 5 minutes or so.

FM transmitters are terrible and the quality gets too affected I find.

I used one on holiday in France and it was great....Mainly because the car had had the aerial nicked!

Although to be fair, I have actually had plenty of trouble free use with mine, but it is getting harder to find a clear 'unused' wavelength....

I tend to use CDs most of the time, but I really must sort it out before I go away in it again! (y)

Yeah, will do...(y)

(I'll take some pics as well whilst fitting, if that helps?)

I had an FM transmitter in my old Alfa 156 SW, and although it was an easy fix, the quality was nowhere near as good as a hard wired option...

if you could take pics that would be good! also I would like to know where the lead can come out, dont want to drill etc really so down in a footwell or next to the radio would be ideal!

Well when we did it to my two pandas we just put the lead out underneath the centre console so that I can just have my media player sitting in the cup holders. It's not that hard to route it really.

Actually the cup holder is a good place to aim for (that's where I put my mp3 player when I use the transmitter - or in the try under the handbrake)

My only thought was, that it might run past the heater outlets and they can get pretty hot....?

Hmmm - I'll check when I have a go...

Still waiting for the lead before I can progress - Had an e-mail to say it'd been dispatched on Monday, but no sign as of yet!

trackdayqueen "Nothing particularly fiddly about it either. Think it took my other half about 5 minutes or so."

Hmmppphhh!

LOL... well 5 minutes for my very capable electronic geek of a boyfriend... no doubt I would have been umming and erring had I been doing it myself.

Really though once you've got the head unit out and dismantled the blue connector block from the pins on the aux lead it really is just a matter of plugging in the connectors and just putting the rest of the lead behind the dash.

Well they may get some heat but I can't really see it posing a problem as such as it will just be conducted heat from the ducting to the vents. I have a feeling IIRC that by putting the lead towards the back of the dash that you don't go that near to the heating/air ducts anyway. Then you just run it so it comes out under the centre console. I think mine goes towards the right side of the glovebox then out at carpet level on the passenger side (for obvious reasons!).

Well the lead arrived today, so I'll get onto it tomorrow...As TDQ says, it seems very straightforward, but I'll snap some pics of the cable routing - I'm intending feeding it into the glovebox, instead of cupholder area...

Pic's to follow...

you know that you need to break the pins out of the aux input lead connector? Basically it's a blue plug on the end but what you need to do is get the pin connectors free of it. We did this with various sharp kitchen knifes and the odd pair of pliers, so you need to saw through it without damaging the pins inside. Then you can plug them into the yellow (IIRC) connector on the back of the head unit. Obviously it's a one shot thing, ie when you push them home that's it, but you can insert them enough to make contact to test you've got the pins inserted in the right place on the back of the connector block.

Good luck!
