Today as I got into the Panda went to put the front driver side window down to let some hot air out..

A jamming noise followed by a sharp stop and the window is stuck about an inch and a half open.

Some persuasion from my hand up or down with the help of the button is not doing anything either.

The window looks like it has tilted down every so slightly and is out of alignment with it’s normal vertical stance and now a bit down on the back side..

What’s the next step? Taking off the door card and having a look.

Having seen a neighbour with a Citroen Picasso have a window regulator issue and a relation with a VW Passat with a non moving window this seems like it’ll be a downright awkward job

Likely a plastic clip that supports the window has broken.

This happened to my car. I removed the door clip, slackened off the motor, jiggled the window until the clip fell to the bottom, retightened the motor and it has sort of worked fine since then.

Sort of fine: No noise and goes up and down, but it sometimes goes up at a slight angle and I don't 100% trust it, but it has been 2 years now.

The motor is held to the door frame by screws with an unusual head, but I cannot remember what sort.

Really easy, couple of bolts and screws and it pops out.

You might end up snapping a few clips on the plastic parts, bit fragile.

You can get a set of plastic generic trim removal tools for a few quid from a well-known auction site. They work pretty well.

Guessing this is the clip for it?

Going to try and find what type of clips are on the door so I can buy a few in case they break

That looks like the one that broken on one I saw. The plastic is brittle and then breaks. It's at the very bottom centre of the window - clearer when the door card is off. It's allegedly a difficult job - hence did as the other poster - got the window back in the channel and then left as is - knowing it could all happen again.

Never actually broken any door card clips, though they do become brittle-
use a plastic palate knife or spatula from the kitchen.

I was planning on removing the door card tonight to have a look before ordering anything.

Is it worth taking off the passenger card too just to see how it should be working? Or does that just run the risk of jamming the other one too?

I'd just take the driver's door one off as it should be plain. Look at the bottom of the glass and how it locates on a central 'channel' or riser. You will see the plastic clip there. You'll probably also wonder why it took this long to break....

You may be able to fiddle around to get the window to rise and fall OK. It's not the easiest area to work in that's for sure.

Okay I’ll report back on my experience.

Glad there’s a highly likely chance it’s a clip and not a motor etc that’s prone to failing.

If forced down, the button pressed UP ever so slightly by about 2mm moves the window up so I’m confident the electrics are fine and it’s a physical blockage or mechanical failure (such as the clip)

Any idea if these are Fiat specific clips or if a motor factors might stock them?

And would it be illegal to drive the car without it on if I could potentially nip out and get the part .. ideas

The clip is Eastern Europe/ebay job.

I think you'll need to pop the bottom of the window back into the channel and then hopefully it'll move up and down. See how it looks and consider if a stack of Araldite might help keep it in place, versus having to swap the clip.

You can drive the car with the window stuck - but your insurance may not like that.

So driving a car with the window open is an insurance problem. I'd better tell that to my motorbike insurance and my neighbour's soft top car.

Really!!!

Remove the door trims (some screws will be hidden so look carefully. The proper tool is well worth having as the door card can be damaged.

Peel off the plastic damp protection sheet.

Sort out what's wrong with the window. If you need to order parts, then wedge it up with suitable sticks of wood. You *can* leave it open but it's obviously a security risk.

You can continue driving as normal.

When the window is working again, repair the plastic vapour sheet with waterproof sticky tape and refit the door card. Do not refit the card with the plastic ripped unless you want a soggy damp door card.

New clips are available on eBay. These were just a listing search I've not confirmed they are the same as on the car. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10X-FIAT-...r:2007&hash=item541943ad17:g:dQoAAOSw0e9UygWh

1. Window 'stuck' not 'open'...though I meant if it was parked up. I suspect SB knew that though.

2. You should definitely declare the modifications on your motorcycle if you have added windows to it, especially if they are stuck open.

Took it all apart today (and kept the door card off until the parts come)

Discovered the following;

Door check strap is broken.
Switch, electrics all fine.
Window is not jammed at all.
Clip is intact and in position.

Leading me to believe the motor is broken.

Seems to come as one assembly, so ordered that for 56,57.

As for the check strap, couldn’t find it anywhere and Fiats ePer quotes £48?!

Get a door check strap from a breakers. Its highly likely the same ones are used on other Fiats so take yours along to compare.

Searched part number online. No immediate matches with Punto or 500 it seems

Do left / right / front / rear doors all have different check straps? You might find a rear or passenger side strap will do the job and compared to driver's door will be nearly unused.

In a breakers of course.

Well, bit the bullet. Ordered it from Fiat who sells it for £35.14 in NI.

Please tell me the check strap functions by preventing the door from breaking off? Because if it doesn’t I don’t know why I bothered.

A total of £91 for that little surprise on Monday of the window sticking. Tempted to put signs up on all the other ones asking passengers to ‘only use in emergencies’ lol
