I've just bought a 1.3 diesel panda with 75k on the clock. It started fine when I bought it but has struggled to fire from cold the past few days. I'm assuming heater plugs or similar which I'll look at.

My query is if I turn the ignition on and wait a few seconds to give it a chance to heat up I have to turn the ignition fully off again in order for me to turn it back on again to the starting position. If I try to turn it to the starting position without turning it off again it won,t move.

This just seems a bit odd to me. Are they all like that or just mine?

Yes that would be correct. I'd often do the warm up twice if it's very cold in the winter.

Some diesels have a different ignition switch so they can be set to heat without going fully off. These presumably don't but a short pause won't matter, the glow plugs will still be hot.

Think its a safety device to stop you from turning the starter on again while the engine is running.

Every car I had recently has required you to turn the ignition off before It will cranking the engine.

Pain in the neck If you want to listen to the radio while stuck on the motorway.

Two good glow plugs is normally enough to start fine. I use to change two when it started to play up then next time change the other two.

Faulty glow plugs *can* burn out on the inside and become impossible to remove with the cylinder head in place. If they are acting up, get them out before it's too late.
