07 100HP head unit replacement

Hi,

If I were to fit a new double din head unit to my 100HP is it possible to connect up any of the steering controls and make them work? Not sure if there is a standard they adhere to or not. New head unit will have Bluetooth but would be nice to be able to control calls with the steering wheel.

Thanks

Also, the head unit I was thinking of getting has the USB connectors on the rear. I need to use USB for Android Auto. Has anyone found a suitable path to run a usb lead from the rear of a head unit to somewhere down by the cup holders for connecting? I don't want to pull it apart too much.

Aftermarket stereo and working steering wheel button controls
someone please push me in the right direction

Sorted this out Connects2 bought from ebay 33
Just fitted it this morning all buttons on the steering wheel work ...except for the phone buttons, but that's ok as calls made from the stereo
Had to fit the stereo's jack plug mic so people can hear me when using the phone.
Just gotta tuck the wiring harness away better behind the stereo as it's tight behind there

(This is actually my Panda)

Nice one. I am going for a JVC Android Auto head unit, the thing which most concerns me is getting the USB socket from the back of the head unit to somewhere I can connect the phone. Via the glovebox looks easiest. Some people have mentioned pulling it up through the gear gaiter but I think that would be rather messy.

I've run an aux in cable easily down to the floor where it comes out beneath the centre console and leads nicely to the cup holder where you could put a phone holder. Beat and out of the way

Cool, I've decided to just try using an aux cable initially, rather than splashing out on a new head unit. The BT hands free works really well with my Android phone and also I found that pressing the green button on the steering wheel actually activates "OK Google" on my phone so if I speak it will do what I say. That means that if I connect the aux cable when I get in the car and I can then control it fully by voice for music etc. The voice control via the car bluetooth also works well for Google Maps.

Re: 07 100HP head unit replacement

So, lived with that for a week, the BT voice control was a bit hit and miss so decided to upgrade! Bought a Pioneer deh-x5900bt, a connects2 lead for the steering controls and a genuine fascia from a scrappy. Now looks like this:

I drilled a hole through the back of the cubby hole to feed the microphone through to save trying to wire it in elsewhere. The phone buttons on the steering wheel don't work but as far as I know they're not meant to. The other buttons work properly for Radio, Spotify, BT Audio etc so that's good enough. The head unit has a button you can press to start Google Now or Siri and that works well. The head unit also supports Spotify directly which is great as when I get in the car and the BT connects it just carries on playing from where it was before.

All in all cost about 150 and about an hour to fit. The allen key bolt holding the old cage in was done up really tight, eventually managed to get it off with a socket set and extension. The fascia has a few scratches, which is a shame, but fiat wanted 65 for a new one where as I paid 15 for that one.
