Had an air con re-gas done at Halfords for 30 quid.
The air con now works ok (not ice cold) but there is now a hissing/venting noise coming from behind what sounds like the fan control switch when you switch on the air con.....any ideas?

Is yours AirCon (twist controls) or Climate Control (digital)?

It's the expansion valve, as long as all is working don't worry about it

Mine's been regassed, hisses and blows cool rather than cold, there's definitely something amiss. Looking at booking it in to the specialists this week.

Why did you have it regarded? Was it not working at all before the regas?

If there is a lead it could be the system has lost most of the new gas.

Also bear in mind that these systems are only expected to reduce temps by 15' - 20'C so in 34'C heat it might only feel cool and not cold

The air con never really was very cold when I got it, certainly not as good as the first HP I had. It started the whistle about 6 months ago and I had it in for a recharge but they reckoned the gas pressure was normal.
Even at 20'c outside the air con can only muster air at 13'c. Does need investigation.

Mine hisses really bad. Hissing becomes louder at speed. Is this the expansion valve?

I had Halfords regas done but the noise came back within a day.

How much is it to replace the expansion valve?

Wierd thing is it blows hot and cold fine

Mine doesn't hiss and was ice cold even at 35 degree outside temp.

I just don't know who I take it to to find out what it is.

Can anyone here confirm they have a hiss and it DEFINITELY is the expansion valve. The hiss comes on only with the snowflake button pressed.

I don't think it should be hissing and you could try one of the commercial refrigeration engineers.

Look for car air con specialists in your area.
