Having problems with vague gear changes and it apparent that the gearstick feels 'loose'. pulled the leather back to have a look in case there was something I could tighten but there's nothing obvious.

Am I missing something? Or is there anything I can do from underneath the car?

Looks normal. They are wobbly. However both cars I know have over 100,000 miles on the clock.
