Does anyone know if the headlight glass is permanently bonded to the back case or if its clipped onto a soft gasket.

A superficial look suggests its clip on but Ive been caught with other cars so just asking.

Don't be fooled, The clips are just a cunning Fiat disguise to lull you into thinking you might be able to save a few quid with a new glass or being able to get in to replace the bulb holder that is fiendishly fragile and quite easily snaps. The headlight is a sealed unit. If you have broken any part of it, it's a whole new headlight I'm afraid.
The good news is, there are tons of them on fleabay for not massive money. I got a mint one for £25 not long ago.

It's also not glass, but plastic.

I managed to burn mine whilst heatgunning condensation out of my headlamps after jet washing out my front wheel wells.

As above. Plastic lens glued to casing.
Doesn't respond well to force, heating is theoretically possible, but only attempt I made resulted in much anger and a foggy lens. Gave up and used a good spare instead.
Used the knackered one to try out keyhole surgery on adjuster motor. That didn't work out well either.
Have heard rumours of people successfully heating them in oven and cutting the mastic, but not seen one myself.

Which Led's did you get? Seen some on ebay but not sure how they'd look on the car. Got any pictures??

Not yet got the LED bulbs but asking a few questions elsewhere. I had fancied putting some LED strip to even angel rings inside the headlight but as its not openable that wont happen. Probably a silly idea but would have been nice to experiment.

I have these on the bike

They are stunningly good but H7 format so wont work in the Panda. I'll update when I find some H4s.

As far as I know the Panda does not use a projector headlights and using L.E.Ds are both illegal and dazzles other drivers. But I could be wrong

Any headlight which dazzles is illegal though to be fair an extremely bright light is even worse.

HID bulbs (burners) do not have a point light source like a filament bulb so they usually need a special reflector. However, I used HID burners in the bike with no problems and while technically illegal they always passed the MOT and I never got flashed for dazzling other drivers. They were good quality HID-50 brand.

IMO being able to see down the road is more important than the light source technology I use to get the job done. The issue is that whatever light source is used it must be compatible with the lens and reflector.

When the dip beam burner failed I swapped back to halogen bulbs while I sorted out replacement parts. The light was stunningly bad taking me back (almost) to the days of Lucas sealed beam units. It was so bad in rain that I nearly hit a lay-by kerb while exiting a dual carriageway. Frightening to say the least.

The bike was supplied new with auxiliary headlight pods that gave a dip beam pattern. Without them the single headlights was frankly dangerous, though perfectly legal. Main beam was pointless because the puny single halogen could not compete with three 50W halogens filling the foreground. My auxiliaries had long since been replaced with long range spots to support the poor main beam.

I found the LED bulbs for less money than replacement HID burners so took a punt. They actually give a better beam because the bright spot is smaller and they might be more powerful than the HID. The dip beam cut-off is sharp and main beam throws light forwards without scatter.

The H7 LED dip beam in the bike gives more light than both halogens in the car from a smaller lamp unit but it is well focussed and not dazzling.

The Panda headlight uses a reflex reflector cap which hides the bulb. You "could" put what you like in there and nobody would know. It must of course work properly with the reflector design so cheap tat wont work. Dazzling others is not only dangerous but its also pointless. Scattered light won't help its user to see where s/he is going. On the up side, LEDs deliver much more light with much less power. The headlight internals do not suffer heat from the bulb but they do need to allow the rear mounted heat sink to cool adequately.

You are indeed wrong.

HID lamps do require the vehicle they are fitted to to have automatic load levelling headlamps, and headlamp washers, in order to be legal, but there is no such requirement for LED bulbs.

They also do not dazzle as the LED chips are placed in the exact alignment where the filaments are on 'standard' bulbs, therefore the beam pattern is the same.

I have had LED headlamps in my Panda and it passed the MOT on beam pattern without comment.

I've looked at these but not yet taken the plunge.
A few questions.

Are they set up for right-hand drive, so left dip, or do they adjust? Or are you dazzling everyone with a right dip?

When you switch to main beam, does it change over, or does it leave the dipped beams on as well, like most four lamp systems. Clever if it does and a great feature.

Ripshot, any chance you can put a couple of pictures of them on your car up please? Or if you want to PM me I'll give you my email address to send them direct.

Cheers.

Post the pictures for all to see, I have looked at these in the past and found them tempting so would also be interested to see what they look like in the flesh.

Also wondered if the standard lights couldn't be adapted to make some sort of Dell's in the gap above the current bulb/reflector set up.
