Read many posts ref this issue, however i did mine last night got frustrated, tried cardboard dip stick, torch etc. Then i turned garage lights off total darkness, shone torch down filler, hold and below could see exact level on filler from the outside, hope this helps anyone.

an smd hand light also does this from the side if the car still has oats in the radiator
i agree though its a bad design
bad poland..bad robot:D

A 'standard' bendy drinks straw works well.

Wet the tip of your finger, put the straw into the coolant bottle, place your wetted finger over the end and remove, then compare the level in the straw with the markings on the bottle.

If it's a 'standard' length bendy straw, the elbow is even about the level of the max coolant level.

the risk of dropping things into the cooling system seems rather unnecessary..:chin:

the torch method ( down the side- like a lantern)worked perfectly on my 1996 Punto.. and it still works just as well on my 1.1 active panda.(y)

hahaaa,

glad you mentioned this. Just got a panda and found this a right pain!

I'm off out with my torch now....

That's how I do it, though it works well enough in low light - no need for total darkness. TBH a level switch would be a great idea. I must get onto that and sort something out.
