Having a bit of trouble with the wiper arms on my 100HP.

Having searched the forum and armed with possible solutions - decided last Saturday that it was time to tackle the wipers.

Basically the wiper arms sat about 2 inches too high. Normally no big deal, would have just adjusted them on the spindle.
The issue though was that they would do their sweep, continue down then return up and sit 2 inches higher than the lowest point of the sweep.
So adjusting them on the spindle would mean they would hit 2inches worth of plastic scuttle before resting.

So Saturday comes, stripped the panel, removed the unit (and cleaned out the completely choked drain plugs :yuck:). All the brace bars and the ball joints were strong with no apparent slacking. Took them off for further inspection (and just to be nosy) All fine.

1 forum post mentioned taking the motor apart to check that everything is aligned but, needing to use the car daily, I figured I wouldn't go that far yet.

So refitted everything, swept my broken ego under the rug and decided to ask for help.

Any pointers?
Cheers

Hi,
SB1500 had a load of wiper related posts in november..,

(sounds to me like it's not "parking" at the bottom of the stroke..)

It sounds like you need a new wiper motor.

Mines was dying out, caused a massive headache. Stopped completely. We put power to it direct, and it worked but it burnt itself out then.

That's why I recommend getting a new wiper motor - or used like I did.

This should solve the problem. We did take mines apart, but there was very little we could do with it other than 'test' it.

To avoid the headache and confusion I had in November/December of last year, I recommend replacing the motor.

Unless you know someone with a lot of experience with electronics who would understand the wiper motor and all of its components to see what's wrong in your case.

Hope this helps. Check out some of my threads on the topic:

* We originally thought it was the stalk controlling the wipers that was the problem. However, if you read through the threads there is a LOT of good info and diagrams / photos about the wipers :)
