i just bought five CROMODORA Bertone wheels that came off a X19 Fiat they had good tyres on with no cracks and deep tread but on checking the tyres were tubed type and were made in 1969 so i took them off fast and put some new tubeless tyres on i wanted this style of wheel for my 2010 FIAT PANDA as i wanted standard size wheels and tyres so as soon as i get them balanced i will fit them to my car and get some pictures up oh yes i got the five wheels for only £60 a great bargain(y) s-l1600.jpg

Surprised if they're 1969 as that would pre-date the X1/9 that they clearly came from. That price was very cheap if they're all straight.

Curious to know what tyres you chose, size wise - many folks go for a 14 or 15 inch wheel as replacement/winter.

i had the wheels balanced today all only had a small wieght needed so all strait, i picked the Cromodora wheels as they became available at the right time i really like the design and they were the right price and were in very good condition also i wanted to keep the standard size wheels on my Panda 13" wheels and i do not like the ride you get with low profile tyres you would have to use if you went for bigger rims As to the age of the tube tyres they had fitted the first X19 was in 1972 so it is possible the tyres were fitted from new

An old acquaintance had a horrible Morris Marina van that he never drove faster than 40mph. after about 7 years it failed the MOT all tyres were scrap. He was really upset, "but the treads are fine can't be even 1/2 worn".

Dead right but the tread grooves were cracked and the rubber compound was so hard it would have stopped a bullet.

yes the tyres fitted were Pirelli P3 Cinteratos with hardly any wear but they were tubed tyres and tube tyres normaly instantly deflate if you get a puncture and would likely have cracked up if used so i dumped them at the council depot and fitted some new tubeless tyres much safer

Many motorbikes use tubed tyres with no worries.

Tubes tyres with something like Puncturesafe in the tubes are fine. But old tyres regardless of type will be hard and cracked or likely to crack.

thats why they went in the bin and you have to use tube tyres on motorcycle with spoked wheels you have no choise but on car alloy wheels tubeless is the safest way

Did you get the centre caps with the wheels? My regular Fiat garage guy has some of those wheels kicking around his workshop.

Do they sit OK on the car? I think the wheels for 70s / 80s era FWD Fiats (Stradas 127s etc) had different offsets than later ones, so they may stick out a bit further.

No way were ther tyres 1969... 1979 maybe which would be the right era for the X1/9 and Pirelli P3s. I had a 131 SuperMiriafiori (1983) that had a brand new 165/13 Cinturato P3 in the boot as a spare, on one of those lovely Fiat Rostyle steel wheels. When I got new tyres in 1989 the Pirelli P4s had replaced the P3s, but the P3s had a great classic tread pattern. I doubt they were ever anything but tubeless however....

Pirelli P3 tyres were defo marked 969 three digit TUBE-TYPE with tubes fitted but it matters not as they have been binned now. the wheels did not come with the bolt covers but i have ordered some caps for the center hole and i have new shiney bolts and will use them like this and maybe sometime i will make my own bolt covers or use another alloy wheel bolt cover if i can find ones that fit, the wheels do fit ok

i have been to a tyre website that say"s date markings were four digit for 2000 and onwards and before that there was a three digit marking the first number being the week of the year and the second and third being the year but as i say it matters not as they have been binned now

i fitted a new tyre to the spare Cromodora wheel i had today and then tried it in the spare wheel well after takeing out the spacesaver and it fitted perfectly with the tools as well with no need for the floor cover to be any higher than with the spacesaver, so i wondered why FIAT did not have a standard wheel in there in the first place, anyway i now have five nice wheels on my car
:)

i wanted standard 13" rims and standard size tyres and the Chromodora rims off the fiat X19 fit the bill, and a set of five came up for sale on ebay. the tyres were AVON ENVIRO tyres that i bought for a SUZUKI ALTO i had but i never got round to fitting them before i part-exed that for the PANDA. I am very happy with the look of the wheel and tyre combo on the car and they feel good on the road
