General Long term storage of Panda

Hi again, original poster here...
As always a great forum for information.

Considering everything that has been written above about long term storage and the distinct possibility of coming home to a car that may need $$$ spent on it to get it mobile again, I think the best option is to sell it so that someone gets the use of it and buy another car upon return.
Not an ideal situation as I have done a few things to the Panda to keep it in good order: 2x new front struts, steering torque sensor replacement, electric window broken clip repair, new front discs, plus the usual service items....
Someone may as well benefit from all this, (quiet sobbing...)

If it was me i would empty the fuel tank give it lots of good oil have it have its feet up turn on the telly for it and give it a nice blanket to lie under and when id come back change oil and filter and give it some fuel.. i might even just take the battery out (same logic as going in taking out batteries of remotes and lights you dont use for ages, it might not apply to car batteries).. it might need new shoes when you come back it might not.. it might even be worth it having it rust treated in advance? I believe i would not sell it to buy something else later as that IS going to cost you money...anyway thats just my take on it, in no way a professional car person, just liking my pandas.. (dont forget its entertainment, perhaps it can watch formula 1 and be a better driver when you return)

Don't sell it! You'll regret it.

This is what I would do. Protect the car with anti corrosion wax as discussed. Drain the fuel tank and park it on axle stands.

If the cam belt fails the engine just stops - the valves are safe so not a huge worry. Battery isn't a big cost to replace. Brakes parts are also cheap but 18 months should not be too much problem.
The exhaust pipe is likely to suffer but anti corrosion spray will protect any lightly rusted metal that would otherwise become badly rusted.
Even if all of these have to be replaced (very unlikely) it would not cost as much as being a new car when you return.

:yeahthat:

As someone who has stored classic Panda's for extended periods (sometimes outside) I've never had any internal engine rusting issues. As such I wouldn't let this put you off.

Just follow what is in the handbook and worst case you'll need a new battery and set of tyres (y)
