Hello guys, another technical wonder of mines...

Why are my Panda's wipers operating at the same slow speed regardless of the level I set them to?

All other electrical systems are fine and haven't even had the EPAS cut off in ages either.

Especially with the icy weather we're having I'd like to get this sorted hopefully as soon as I can.

That's just a plastic covering for the motor mate.
It's there purely for added protection of the motor itself, to stop the majority of any rain/water that gets in that area from getting into the wiper motor

just hope your plug is the same.

Annoying but easy enough to cut the cable complete with plug from the old knackered motor and solder to the new motor cable. Use heat shrink sleeves and self amalgamating tape

It's severely frowned up but correct size heat shrink sleeves can avoid soldering altogether.

I did a temporary job by twisting the conductors together folding back and shrinking a sleeve over the top. Some time later I went to properly solder the cut wires and had to cut the sleeves off. They held the joints so well I could have avoided soldering.

I used some Heatshrink connectors with built-in solder to wire up my towbar. Wasted a couple until I got the temperature right, but they certainly hold well, seem to be very waterproof, and are slim enough not to show when wrapped in loom tape. I wanted to avoid big bulges in the looms to the back lights.
And no electrical issues so far.
Could be ideal for wet environment like bulkhead.

This involves soldering?! :-( Will try get a look after the thermostat.

Noticed my jets keep freezing until the car is running for say 30-40 mins. Wondering if there's anything I can do about this?

Think the windscreen stuff I have is Prestone which is meant to withstand high levels of freezing, but more than half the fill is still there from the summer so maybe my mixture is too weak?

As said above not absolutely. Slip a sleeve onto a wire. Bare the wire ends and twist together. Slip the sleeve over and shrink with a hot air gun.

Its no perfect as the wires can pull out, but you have to try hard. Solder isn't a panacea os all things good because the wires will be stiff at the joint potentially breaking id they are subject to vibration.

On balance solder and sleeves is better (and certainly neater) but twist n shrink also works.

:yeahthat:

You can have the best of both worlds if you slide a crimp connector over the wire before twisting and soldering. Once you've made the soldered connection, slide the butt connector back so that the soldered part is in the stiff metal centre of the connector and crimp the ends; this prevents the wire breaking at the brittle end of the soldered portion.

Screen wash additive contains alcohol which evaporates so they usually freeze anyway when its properly cold. Put up with it or fit heated washer jets. Good luck with the latter Fiat don't seem to use them.

Oh yes just need that round hole making square, where's the Dremel.
Buzz. Buzz Looking fab
Slip and grind the paint
Oh F**k!
Not to mention rust from the bare metal edges. No thanks.

Aftermarket heated jets might exist for Fiats but I suspect it's a dream on.

In 2010 I put screen wash into a trigger spray bottle. Does the job and TBH how often is it really "that" cold.

I used connectors with solder already inside. Casing, glue and solder all melt with hot air gun.
Can't post a link right now, but search "Heat Shrink Connectors Wire terminals Crimp terminals with Soldering Sleeve" on your favourite search engine if interested.

I would have a look at the connectors on the motor before buying anything. Good clean with contact cleaner. Fault may be in the stalk also. So no point in buying anything yet. Both could cause an intermittent fault.
