weird thing been happening to me recently regards my pandas radio/cd

When I use my key fob to open the doors, the radio switches itself on.
I thought this was something id done in the menu system but it's now become more prominent. Ive come to the conclusion that the on' mechanism for the insertion of a cd is at fault as the discs seem to stick in the player and require a few attempts to get them to eject.
Today I used the old method of fixing the old 625 line black and white TV's by hitting the top of the dash above it( if your in your 50's you know what I'm saying!

and hey' it woke up! .
To me this would suggest that the sensor/switch on the cd player is buggered and is being influenced by humidity inside the car?
Is this just me or has anyone else had this issue?

I have had the same problem on a different fiat radio.

It was worn out contacts on the switch that detects the CD being put in the player.

The only option was to replace the switch which is no easy feat as parts for these are not easily available, I achieved it by pulling a broken radio apart in a scrapped car in a yard.

It's a 'special' feature. Mine tends to switch itself between radio and changer when the weather gets hot. It also has decided to turn itself on while it's been parked up and I was not there. In mine, it usually rectifies itself when it cools down again.

yeah, I thought it'd be the switch for the CD, been having a few problems with the CD's not being able to eject so I guess the mechanism has worn out!
Its intermittent so no biggie BUT if the thing is switching itself on in the night then id better have jump leads at the ready now were into winter

FASTMOGGY where are you based? I've got a spare non-mp3 one which works fine. Was going to bin it, but could either replace yours or have the bits you need. It is only missing the volume button.
Free to a good home.
But I'm in Norfolk...

I have a universal tool that sorts out gremlins like this every time.

It's an 18v cordless electric hammer!

Thanks for the offer but it's working ok now. Mind you I did give it a good whack!
Must say I did have a chuckle at the 'only missing the volume button'! this seems to be a common issue when you buy a second hand panda!

You mean to say they have a volume control button from the factory?? Who is the sick person stealing all these knobs!!?

The volume knob on my radio is still present.

I tend to never use the CD player on mine any more as I thought it was part of the reason for the radio switching itself on (other than the weather getting hot). I mainly use the iPod for longer journeys.
