Electric power steering failure. I have a much loved Panda 1200 Young with 25000K's on the clock. The power steering suddenly failed while making a turn after about a 5K slow drive, stayed like that for several engine starts, then returned to normal. But now I don't trust driving it as read this is a very common problem with the specific parts used by Fiat. The repair price is almost half of what I paid for it second hand and as it is the same Fiat part, can I trust it not to fail on me again. My friend was killed when the exact same thing happened to him in his Panda, with about the same mileage. Any advice please?????

Have you tried a new battery (preferably a good make e.g. Bosch S4)? This often cures power steering faults on the Panda without having to replace the steering column or spend lots of money. (The power steering is electric and draws a lot of power, so if the battery isn't working well the steering is the first thing to show a fault)

Edit: just realised that your fault may not relate to the 2003-12 model, but it may be the same as what happens on these cars. Worth a try with a new battery...

Hi
169, 2004, 200.000 k. I have the same problem, the tester tells that is a temporary fault. It never happens when driving, but when starting cold only.

The lack of current (low voltage) sounds realistic.
Any good results until now ?

Hi.
Whatever causes the warning light should leave a stored fault code. Get the battery and generator checked..(a new battery fixed mine..)
then read and clear the steerings fault code.
