Please help.... I just recently purchased a panda, 09 plate...it's from a private seller.... I did not notice that the clutch pedal was wobbly.... I going to contact Fiat on Monday to see whether they can have a look. The clutch works fine but the pedal is wobbly... Feel really stupid that I did not notice and now I have this... I really should not buy cars from private sellers..... Gutted, but how much am I expecting this to cost.... Hope someone can help..... Would this pass a mot. As the mot was done in June, and purchase it BegInning I not even had it two weeks yet....

It probably wouldn't pass an MOT if the tester noticed.

Seems to be fairly common with some Fiat 500s and Pandas, a few threads exist if you search.

I had what was probably the same problem and was quoted well over £200 to get it fixed. In the end I was able to fix it myself for about £35 for a second hand pedal sourced on ebay. Only tools required are circlip pliers, a small hammer and a torch. I didn't have any circlip pliers but was able to get it off eventually with other tools. Be careful it does not flick away when coming off because you will never see it again. I also used various other tools to hit things when I couldn't get my hammer to fit. Fairly obviously I'm not a trained mechanic, be careful and get any work you are not 100% confident with checked over by a trained professional.

Disconnect metal rod that connects to the clutch pedal with flexible ball joint thingys. Remove the circlip that holds the clutch pedal in place. It is to the left of the clutch pedal at the top. Slide the metal rod that goes through the top of the pedal along until you can remove the pedal (the removal is a bit fiddly). Remove pedal, fix pedal or replace. Fitting is the opposite of disassemble. I also used silicone grease on the bushings. Took me about 20 minutes.

The broken pedal will most likely have snapped at the top. You could probably get it spot welded, before replacing it I managed to get it pretty solid with a load of epoxy resin. If welding be aware on one of the previous posts someone said that it is designed to have a weak spot to protect your ankle in the event of a crash.

I took some photos when I did it. Not especially clear as space was very limited and its dark under there.

Hope this helps.

This was helpful, thank you. Pedal went on my 500 and I replaced it today. Not sure about 20 mins though... you'd need to be a vertically challenged leprechaun to have any chance of getting your hands in there efficiently and if you're going to blue glue the correct parts and grease the others you're going to be there a good hour all in, although you may have more room in a Panda..

Take the pedal off and get it welded. The master cylinder ball joint (assuming RHD) unclips and the pivot pin is quick to remove.

They pedal gets over-stressed when people force it against a worn out clutch.

Great explanation and pics. I know it's an old post but still worth a try. Did you unbolt the steering column to get the new pedal in place?
Old one came out in two pieces so was easy but I'm struggling to get the new one in place. Thanks.

Slightly OT, what would the MOT fail be for a wobbly clutch pedal?

MOT's are subjective

if its noticeable then there is a possibility of a fail

I pass several car regularly that have visual faults and shouldn't pass, but they do.

you may need to loosen the trim slightly according to this

My old pedal broke in two so easy to remove , I can’t get the new pedal in past the master cylinder pushrod, any tips for angles!?

Have you loosened the body computer as per instructions in the post above
What’s body computer?

Solved it by opening the bonnet and removing the master cyclinder to get it out the way to install the new pedal

main thing its done

there should be enough room just to fit it without removing anything else

fiat loosen the bolts on the body computer directly over the pedal and move it to give more room
