Hi All,

Car has been making a clicking noise over speed bumps, gone down to the local garage chap said the front passenger wishbone is shot (showed me) this had been replaced when we bought the car six months ago so shows how good the parts were!

He also said that the front damper on the passenger said is leaking and recommend replacing it, he said it would be wise to do the other side as the new one would be a lot firmer then the old one and that the drivers side probably wasn't far off going as well.

For this I have been quoted £253 for one wishbone and two dampers, is that a good price?

I also questioned him about replacing the coil springs at the same time but he said there was no point, slightly rusty but nothing major, would you agree? I always thought it would be wise to replace them at the same time?

Thanks

Cameron

Depends on which brand of parts they fit. Aftermarket parts prices vary widely, as does the quality.

At that price, I'd expect they'll be using the cheapest parts they can source.

Whether to pay extra for a premium brand probably depends on how long you plan on keeping the car. Some folks here have had cheap aftermarket wishbones fail again after 18 months. Same goes for the decision to keep or replace the springs, though that also depends on the condition of the existing parts.

Garages with a decent hydraulic press may be able to source replacement bushes and repair the wishbones, which keeps part prices down and maximises their profit.

Thanks for the info, fiat want 170 quid for a front wish bone, is it really worth that much in terms of quality?

Assuming the parts are from ECP then they will be archler shocks and a q drive wish bone.

Thanks

I got a Magneti Marelli one for a 100hp for £63.71 delivered from Shop4parts....and unlike many other suppliers, it's actually the correct wishbone.
