Hi guys,

This evening, I drove from Manchester to Liverpool and I stopped half way at the services, however the second part of the journey resulting in a strange thing occurring.

The interior dash cluster; left indicator failed to flash, however the 'left' exterior lights flashed normally accompanied with the 'ticking', but the actual dash clock did not indicate. However, the right indicator illuminated perfectly. I put the hazard lights on to see if it would correct, however only the right indicator on the cluster illuminated. But, all the exterior bulbs lit, both left and right.

Anyhow, I turned the car off.. started it up again and the 'left' cluster began to illuminate when I put the left indicator on. My partner said the system 'being computer controlled' just needed resetting, but I don't know.

Obviously, it's working again, so I'm not too concerned, but will this become a common thing now, maybe with other dash lights? Does it happen/or has it happened to your car??

Matt.

Hi,

If it occurs again, could I replace the whole cluster (find one that has been on a Panda before, but repaired/or from one being broken up as spares). Would it be simple to change, a few screws, unclip, plug the new one in? Maybe a diagnostic machine would need to sort out the mileage.

It appears to have reset, so I'm not sure if it was something that is a one-off, or something that will now progressively get worse.

Matt.

If you decide on another cluster, remember that mileage can be adjusted up but not down, therefore you'll need one with lower miles than yours.

Hi,

Thanks for the further advice. It does seem rather difficult to buy a new cluster, or one that is new-ish. My car has only covered 18,500 miles, and since the majority of clusters have 50,000+ applied to them, they might have more issues than mine!

I suppose it could be a 'one-off' and may not occur again, since it did reset itself once the vehicle was restarted. At first, I thought the bulb had blew but I'm wondering if I should clean the earthing point for the cluster.

If you post it to me I can probably test and repair it, but you would be without the car for about a week.

Hi guys,

The issue appears to have returned. So I'd like to replace the cluster as the speed 'needles' are dim too and I think the issues are only related to the cluster.

So, I've been looking on EBAY and Breakers yards and it appears quite difficult to find a replacement cluster.

According to the cluster, the part numbers given are: 51771949. 20. 90428
The bar code (written on the side), within the cluster shows: 66JMCK59J

Other numbers are 503.00.949.30.00 C141 12V

Wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction - also found out that C141 is the critical number, but I would have thought all the numbers had to match.

Oh and by the way, I phoned FIAT (dealership) and they quoted £571.00 for a new cluster (without fitting)!!!

Matt.
