I reckon despite this engines ludicrously long intervals I notice a significant improvement in performance ( less smoke , smoother , quicker warm up , better mpg etc ) when I change oil at 5k miles . I used veer towards very dear oil and annual changes ( 15k miles ish ) in an old diesel Micra I had .The DPF(?) warning light would regularly come on despite two hours a day driving , hardly ever stopping .
My beloved 2005 faded red Panda MJ has now passed 163k miles :) The first owner had the oil changed at one stage practically every three months . As the Diesel engine combustion process adds more crud to the oil I'd say frequent oil changes are wise in the long run .

I have mine serviced yearly at the local Fiat dealer, and change the oil and filter myself six months later. My car is ten years old and only 73000 miles, and so far, no sign of cam chain rattles. High quality fully synthetic 5W40 is used.

Very low mileage there. Mine is a similar age with 106K miles on it.

Mines at 185000 miles now always fully synthetic every12000 miles and still no need to top up between changes. :)

Love the high miler posts here - mine's a mere sprat by comparison, and I change every 10k, always with new filter - so there must be years of life in mine yet. I always get the oil nice and hot and pump out as soon as the engine stops through the dipstick pipe.

This one's a keeper.

Almost identical miles to Wee Smurf (104K) on a 2007 MJ. Always used good quality fully synth oil and changed the filter - no smoke, no cam/chain rattles and no turbo or engine wear probs at all.
