General Bolts for steel wheels

General Bolts for steel wheels

I agree the look nice but will probably be quite heavy, no?

I remember one of the reasons my dad removed the centre caps from his Fiat 127 was to reduce unsprung weight. I couldn't believe it until I lifted one of them, they weighted a ton, they were quite more chunky than the ones you have pictured though.

Not as light as a packet of crisps, but as it's just pressed Stainless-steel they're pretty light indeed, but strong.

Get the wheels on already!

I'll certainly consider them if I don't like the "naked" look.

I haven't received them yet and doubt I will before going on holiday, then they need painting so it will be a while before I can put them on but I'll update you with the progress :)

I know that I can use the same bolts to fit Fiat steelies to my 100hp Panda.
They poke out the back of both wheels the exact same distance

Thanks wrightyy.

Argh, my order was on hold as according to oponeo only 13" and 14" wheels are listed for my car.

They have asked me to send them an email that I buy my wheels with my own responsibility regarding fitment to the car.

They will now arrive while I am on holiday :( but I will have something to look forward when I return. I was hoping they arrived earlier so I could drop them to the paintshop.

When I was considering these wheels, these are the centre caps I was considering having:

One of the few metal parts on the Alfasud that didn't rust. The bolts keep them in place, so no stealing

I tested fitted a wheel today and dropped them to the bodyshop to be painted silver.

AB100, do you think the Alfasud centre caps will fit over them?

The wheels fit fine with the existing bolts, they are identical to the spare one.

P.S. I need to sort out the rusty bolts now as they are like a sore thumb...

Edit: I was too impatient and after a couple of glasses of Shiraz bought the Alfasud caps, hopefully they will fit! :)

I am fairly certain that the locating bolts/pegs would get in the way of the caps as we didn't have those on the Sud.

You could buy some flat bolts though to replace the pegs.

Hang on and let me measure a template.

This was my worry although if I am lucky the cap could just fit below the locating peg. Let me know otherwise I'll get the dremel out and shave the caps.

Take care with this and check before purchasing. I went to a scrappy for spare bolts for MII Punto (alloys) and found that different model years have different bolts, same may go for steelies!

Cut-out and keep template. One centimetre squares. The red bits are where the bolt pinches the cap...........stopping people pinching the caps!

Thanks! I'll offer it to the spare and see if it fits. Worst case I'll shave them a bit :D

It even looks small to me although I printed its actual size

What do you reckon?

That doesn't look right. I 'hovered' one over my 100hp wheel and it looked bigger. The curved indents should be almost touching the wheel holes.

Get the ruler out and measure the grids to ensure they are 1cm squares on your print-out.

For the record - at its widest, the hub cap is 96mm. Hope that helps.

It looks like I need to get the dremel out to shave the part that fouls the studs :D

I think the wheels will look interesting in silver and once the caps are polished, what do you reckon?

For what it's worth the caps weigh almost nothing, an added bonus, too!

Yes, that caps are indeed very light. One of the few things on the old 'Sud that didn't rust.

I don't know what the PCD was on the old Alfasud, but I'd try them as they are first off as they may slip under the blt head (that was the intention).

As you say though, a small shaving with the Dremel will make them prefect if there is some rubbing.

They are certainly going to look pretty special - am anxious to see the finished article.

It looks like the bolts will clear the caps fine, it's the 2 locating pins that won't and need to shave the caps around them I think.

Sorry - see what you mean now.

Bin the pin.

Just replace with flat bolts.........they're only slightly useful when sticking the wheel back on.
