I have a 2011 1.2 69HP Panda which cuts out sometimes when accelerating in first from rest. As you can imagine this is a bit disconcerting, it is like hitting the rev limiter but at much lower revs (no idea what as no rev counter). The engine comes back to life if the accelerator is lifted or pressed down a bit. I have replaced the electronic throttle pedal, the throttle body and inlet air sensor. These items were all picked up on Ebay for very little off cars of a similar age to mine. I have also cleaned the contacts on the ECU. If you disconnect and reconnect the battery the problem goes away for a few days then comes back. I am sure the problem must be with the ECU which I know does have the latest software. As it is a late Panda the ECU needs to be matched to the car. Does anyone have any useful advise on how to change an ECU or anything else the problem could be?

Thanks

Peter

A few have suggested battery Earth before, unlikely though it seems - specially as you've been disconnecting it. Assume you've tried a fault reading and got nothing?

Just a thought ....

I ran a Scenic diesel for a while, and it developed similar symptoms - cutting out completely whenever I booted it, but behaving normally with gentle driving. When I lifted my right foot, the engine would run correctly again.

After much head scratching with my mechanic, we pulled apart and remade all the underbonnet connectors we could find, and that cured the problem!

It was an intermittent dry coupling in one of the connectors, that must have moved very slightly under hard acceleration, but I never discovered which one. I was too pleased to have the problem fixed.

Thanks for your replies, something else to check. I was hoping for some comments on how easy it is to change the ECU however it looks like no-one else has needed to do that.
