Dear all.

My trusty 2006 diesel Panda is getting a bit long in the tooth now and I am tempted to try and replace it with one of the last of its kind and extend my relationship with diesel Pandas with potentially less hassle. Not that my Panda has caused many problems, it's just getting to that age when the risks get higher.

A quick gander at various car sales sites would lead one to believe that these things are incredibly rare and that 2011 (Year identifier 11) was the last of them.

As this version of the Panda is supposed to have been made between 2003 and 2012, would anyone be able to confirm whether a 2012/62 diesel Panda is a reality, or a figment of my imagination?

Failing that, does anybody know what the newest available reg would be on one of these fine diesel Pandas - so that I can try and hunt one down in the wild?

Ta Muchly.

Mike.

Newest I've seen is 2011 61 reg cars.

Last year a stack of 2010 ultra low mile diesels were sold at Mannheim auctions and subsequently ended up on autotrader.

Best model/colour at a fair price:

Ta AB100.

That was one of the handful that I could find nationally earlier and would almost be ideal. The major issue is that it is a 7+ hour drive from deepest Aberdeenshire. Whilst the Panda is an excellent wee car, with relatively comfy seats, I don't really fancy 7+ hours, potentially each way, in one!

I'm really not in a huge rush. I'm just off the blower to one of my local dealers (Arnold Clark FIAT in Elgin) and they are going to keep an eye out for something and will get back to me. That didn't stop them trying to sell me a new style Panda, which my towbar, winter wheels and Haynes manual probably won't work with. Bless them. I'll maybe give another one a call tomorrow and see if they have something suitable up their jumper, but Arnold seems to have Scotland sewn up.

Thanks for your rapid answer.

Mike.

2011 would be right as they stopped the diesel and all the last ones were 1.2 ecos.

I have a 2005 Multijet with 102K miles on it. There's plenty with more than that. I'm keeping going with mine. It's still giving good mpg and running happily. Is there anything wrong with yours or is it a case of concern as to what could go wrong?

Newton's 4th law of Motion states that the car you want is always 215 miles away on Autotrader.

When I want a mint 2010 Panda Cross, it's at Arnold Clark Elgin!

Fully understand your view on older is better.
6 weeks ago traded in my 2009 diesel Panda for a new one. What a mistake!
Has battery problems already - not covered under warranty, and since the car is under warranty can't take it apart or sort out things myself.

Those DPF things have one on my doblo, no problems so far, but it does live on the motorways.

Good luck in your search, I'm thinking of doing the same thing.

Another vote for keeping it here .Mine has near 160k miles up .60 k loyal service over last four years come next October .And would also agree with Varese Crazy that a newer one may be less reliable .In 2005 or early / mid 2006 latest they stuck in a DPF which causes issues unless on open road and uses more fuel .
Apart from checking water isn't leaking in at top/ back of 'bendy' air filter housing I find the suspension wishbones to be the cars weak point. On the rough roads I drive they could be replaced nearly as often as tyres .And their degradation wears out the tyres insides pretty fast too ! (Under 20k / 18 months?)
As a sensible reliable economical car that you're not going to pamper but change oil every 5k miles I don't think it has an equal .Mine (2005)was 2200 euro and probably worth the same today .

New car warranties more trouble than they're worth tying you into rip off servicing and they will still try and wriggle out of paying up if something big goes wrong .Ridiculous having to waste a half or full day 'booking car in' etc for a job you would do yourself in under an hour .

OK, OK, OK............... I give in!

It all makes sense. I'll keep the old girl and see how long I can keep her going, without spending daft money on her.

The MOT advisories probably mean that I already require new front disks, a pair of rear tyres and a front suspension arm bush for the June 2016 MOT. Hopefully that will cover it, but we will have to see nearer the time.

The annoying thing is that I replaced the front disks and pads 3 years ago with recommended EBC units, but the disks have corroded really badly and they just scraped through the MOT - Pun intended!

She has only 29K miles on the clock, so the engine should be good to go for a while yet, but it is more the expensive MOT things that I am concerned about. But I do do a lot of short journeys, which probably isn't that great for the wee diesel heart.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you all, but thanks for your considered thoughts and opinions. All much appreciated.

Cheers.

Mike.

Nonsense! Last year, I went on autotrader to look for a Grande Punto, and straight away, a reputable used car dealer 12 miles from me had a low mileage 1.4 Eleganza in good condition, and just in budget. Result, lol! :)
