Hey my favourite peoples...
In December when I had the cambelt/pump done. I got the garage to bodge my heater to hot.

I told them to bodge it and everyones happy. "Come back in summer and we'll set it to cold." Great. (y)

I decided to set it to cold myself. I pull the gaiter off, because I think it's best to remove the lower part of the dash. I immediately see that the gaiter surround is fixed with two different screws of a totally different type and colour. Either the garage's work, or Fiat... you can never tell which.

I then decide just to take the clutch side cover off and see what is going on. I instantly see hot glue, again i'm going to use the 'Rubbish garage... or factory Fiat rule.'

The module is held on with one bolt, it's supposed to be held in three places and one bolt hole is snapped off. The module is now bypassed anyway, but still...

Module off and here's where i'm stuck, theres a hole (Covered in grease and old glue) which seems to move, but not really.

Any ideas? I assume that it supposed to turn?

Yes it should, this is what the actuator would move.

The middle part moves in all directions and I'm struggling to figure out a way to make it twist. If I can get a couple of selftappers on the middle bit, that could work. (I'm not fussed about it working electrically) its a 2 minute job in winter to turn back.

If not I have a drastic idea, involving sawing a tiny part of the outer rim off...

I watched the actuator and that spins clockwiseb a few times and then maybe a little bit of counter clockwise. Regardless of selecting hot or cold.

Anyway, I have access to the part that twists... I can turn it anticlockwise maybe a quarter turn and then it goes back to where it was, I forced it into that position but the heater was still hot.

Is that defo the heater control one then, and not for one of the directional flaps etc?

Sounds like the flap has broken internally then and not just on the spline :(

This is really strange, but you were pretty much right.
I was driving along and stuck with my broken heat only heater, when I suddenly got cold. I have figured a way to get hot... And cold!!!

Its not affected by the directional flaps, but by the heater speed. The temp setting is irrelevant, but Max speed until it makes the thump is hot, making it below the thump is ice cold. (y)

I will take that any day of the week compared to one heat setting.
