As above...

On my way home today, my radio decided that it would just switch itself to cd mode. I switched it back to tuner, but it randomly switched to cd another half dozen or so times. I never use the cd and there's no cd in the unit. Any ideas?

I get the feeling that my radio might be on its way out. Today it started switching itself on while it was parked up. It has so far done it 3 times today. Did anyone come up with a solution for this other than dropping it into the bin?

There are a few similar posts about this. General consensus is the head unit is dead and will drain your battery as well as annoy you.

Options:
1. Disconnect it and just sing.
2. Aftermarket head unit. Ideally will need a CanBus adaptor too.
3. See if it is repairable. A long way from you, but you could talk to these guys. http://www.mapleaudio.co.uk/ They fixed my CD changer, good service.

Lol Me? Sing unaccompanied? Nah I don't think so! I think I might try saving for a nice new one. I quite liked one that someone posted a pic of recently. I suppose I haven't done too bad with it now being ten years old. A lot of them got nowhere near that.

This is particularly bizarre. On Thursday I was parked up and having a conversation after giving a friend a lift so, as is polite, the radio was turned off, as was the ignition when....de-de-deeeerrrrr! It turned itself back on. Twice.

That's the first time It'd happened. I did wonder if it would suddenly turn itself back on late at night and I'd have a flat battery by morning but, so far that's not been an issue. The odd thing is that I think our cars are about the same age so maybe it's a senility issue. :)

I'm loving the senile car thing. Lol. Yes mine turned 10 on Wednesday and the dementia followed on Thursday. Strangely mine turned itself on 3 times on Thursday. Then when I went out that evening, it did the full am I on changer or cd or radio thing for about a mile. It then seemed to think that radio was the way to go and it has behaved itself ever since. I can't figure out what happened, but I did drive from Belfast to Enniskillen and back on Thursday (around 180 miles) so maybe it was thinking that I was working it too hard. :)

Mine's called Christine. Do you think that has a bearing on this issue? I hope your's isn't too.

No, mine is called Dez.

He doesn't look too bad for 10.

We must keep them apart. For the love of God don't let them mate!!! If there are reports on the morning news of a driver-less Panda boarding the ferry at Stranraer then you'll know we're doomed.

Actually, better keep an eye on Cairnryan as well. OMG I forgot about Hollyhead. What happens if she's planning to sneak in via Dun Thingy or Dublin and slip over the border............?

Cue Oh Fortuna in the background and a sudden drop in ambient temperature :eek::eek:

It's probably a good thing that there's a little drop of seawater between the two of them! :) Imagine their progeny!

The other question is how would the blue mix with the yellow?

Or how about blue from the swage line with yellow above and yellow bumpers. Bit of a '70s dealer special going on. Maybe.

Your suggestion is so appealing! :yuck:

Perhaps we should ensure that our Pandas don't meet up ever! :)

Hi all

Have had similar problems with mine since I got it - it was very fond of switching itself on through the night and leaving me with a flat battery in the morning.

Touch wood it seems to be fixed now since I fiddled with the settings and deactivated the function that switches the radio off when you switch the ignition off. Might be worth a try with yours Wee Smurf.

Since its hiccups the other week, it has behaved itself since. I'll wait and see if it decides to go mad again.

...I had a similar issue with my old '04 panda. the original fiat radio kept switching on and draining battery. I had it looked at - "possible left hand can bus issue" was the verdict but not definitive. However I decided to replace it with a halfords aftermarket unit and this cured the problem. So it was the radio.

I think it's a hot weather thing now! Radio has behaved itself all winter and the first hint of summer and hey presto on the way home it decided that it couldn't decide whether it preferred to be on radio or cd. It switched back and forth several times. I parked up for around an hour and went back out to the garage to find it was playing away - engine off!!!

I'm sure it'll be normal service when it cools down again.

Popping a new radio is a 10 minute job. I bought one with bluetooth so I can listen to my phone, and do bluetooth calling. All very swish. I've not actually used the CD player in it since.

Cost £70 for the head unit, and £20 for the wires and associated guff, all from ebay
