I picked my car up on Saturday and come Sunday I started it up and there was an amber triangle with an exclamation mark in the middle. No messages in the driver information display which according to the handbook means an oil pressure sensor issue.

Now the car drives the same as it did when I picked it up, no loss of power, engine stays in the middle of the temp zone and doesn't feel reluctant so I'm thinking the issue is the sensor is faulty rather than there being something wrong with the engine itself?

I've checked the oil level every day and it's nearly right at the top, maybe a couple of milimeters below the top of the hatched area.

Anyone have any experience with this? I've got the car booked in at the dealers in a fortnight.

Do you have an ODB2 code reader device, or even better, a copy of FIATmultiecuscan with dedicated UCB cable? I'm wondering if the warning light would allow the car's CPU to give more detail.

There's folks with more expertise on here that might be able to suggest.

For now, my own personal rule is - if it has oil, water, fuel and stops/starts then it's probably OK. Back in the day, some of us older folks only knew something was wrong when something was wrong....

I think I've been a pillock. Checked my oil earlier today and only about 1/4th of the dipstick had oil in it.

I put some castrol in it and immediately seems to run better. Can't believe a dealer wouldn't check the fluids before handing a car over!

100HPs do use oil.
When I bought mine the level was at the bottom of the stick.
The manual says it is normal to use up to 400gr per 1000 miles!

Okay so I've topped the oil up. I will give it a check tomorrow incaae the car is just dumping oil everywhere. But the light is back :(

Well I took it in yesterday at 8:30. Got it back at 5pm, and the light is still on. Car is apparently burning oil at a crazy rate and that's, "normal . Only 0,3 l of oil in the car when they checked it apparently.

I'm going to book the car in again but I'm jot feeling so happy. I might invest in a Bluetooth obd dongle so I can try and monitor pressure to see if that's the fault

Have I bought a lemon?

If it used 2.7l of oil since the last time you topped it up, thats way too much. It was only a few weeks ago if that?

Fiats do use oil, both my pandas have used id say 0.7-1 litre/ 5000kms

you seem to be using more oil per mile than my old 2 stroke cagiva mito did. I would look for a leak at those levels as my bike left a trail of blue smoke and im sure you would have noticed that much oil burn.

I would take practical steps first, like we used to when we didn't know hairspray was destroying the ozone and mobile phones only worked in the house and needed a 3 foot aerial:

1. Is there an oily picture of Jesus on your driveway? If no, it's not leaking oil.

2. Have you parked the car on level ground and topped up and let the oil level, marking the dipstick? Take a pic.

3. After running a few hundred miles, check the dipstick level again, referring back to your photo. How far has it moved?

4. Have you bought a £15 ODB2 reader/resetter off ebay and checked/reset the warning? If not, do that (this is a modern thing to do).

5. Does your car smoke like Dot Cotton when it's running?

I had this warning come on with my 100HP this week whilst on a roundabout. Had a look at the dipstick, literally no sign of any oil on it at all! Took just over 2 litres of oil to get it where is should be! Bit of a worry, the oil was last changed in May. I did have a coil pack failing and some misfires so not sure if that could have nailed some of the oil until fixed....
