Hello,

I'm looking at repairing my drivers seat as the inside wing of the bucket seat has worn through on the foam and I can feel the metal frame digging in to my ribs! Once the cover is off I'm sure its not that hard to do, but I can't seem to undo the b@st@r£ plastic clip at the bottom of the back rest. Anyone got anyadvice or tips as how this is best undone? Or does anyone know of any how to's or similar threads.

Thanks,
Mark

I think for most it's probably in the 'too difficult' pile. Someone has replaces their seat covering before on here, but it wasn't easy. Try a few forum searches and see what comes up.

:yeahthat: I'm not sure who replaced theirs but it involved lots of cursing, pulling and skinning of knuckles. I think most people look for an alternative seat either from another car the same as theirs and replace one seat or a differing full set.

Fixed mine last summer and still holding up strong. Take a look at the thread above - hope it helps.

Hi Gilbie,

how did you undo the plastic beading at the bottom of the seat to get the cover off? Do you need a special tool or technique as I'm at the point of nearly snapping it to get it off.

Would you say you needed to take the seat off to do the repair or could you do it in the car?

Thanks,

Hi. I found it really easy to take the seat out. Only 4 bolts + a few connector's ( mine had airbag )
You will probably find the bead at the bottom simply unclips. You will need a pair of long nose pliers to remove the cover completely.

Just remembered, the 2 x U shaped beads might have a small staple holding them together. Mines come a part and was thinking about a small staple to hold back in place.

Added pic as mine recently came unclipped. My previous post about there being a staple was incorrect. If you look closely the 2 x U shapes are held together with a kind of barb on the inner U.

I fixed my knackered drivers seat in November. Took a couple of hours - fiddly but not difficult. I glued existing foam together where it had split using spray upholstery glue. I also added a new layer of 3mm scrim foam as reinforcement - again spray glued on. Also fixed the spring at the back of the seat.
