Basically you can't use the newer opposing drop links on Koni's

What's the story behind these newer drop links? Did Fiat change them at some point?

At this point I've only changed the rear shocks, but if I did want to put Konis on the front at some point, does this mean that I can do a straight swap as long as the original drop links are on my car and don't need changing?

Good Morning,

Would you recommend changing the all the dampers for konis?

I'm contemplating just changing the rears as this would have the greater benefit, but are wondering what difference changing the from ones makes to the set up / driving feel ?

Cheers
James

If you can change them all do so, and always change in pairs either both front or both rear.

I have koni sport set up (yellows) with H&R springs and its firm but on rails, having come from classic minis its positive luxury.

I'm having the STR.Ts fitted front and rear on the 27th, hopefully it'll feel a bit better - will report back. I'm quite excited!

Basically you can't use the newer opposing drop links on Koni's as they foul the shock tube when you turn the steering so you either have to pay the frankly rip-off price for the earlier version where both joints face the same way or use adjustable ones which is what I did.
More hijacking, and revisiting a previous question, but do you know if the cheaper opposing front drop-links can be used with the standard 100hp shocks?

I think mine has the same-side ones on at present.

Well today my Panda went in for its service and MOT, and had Koni STR.Ts fitted front and rear - there is a pretty marked difference! I'm glad I did it as it has made the ride a lot smoother in general and it feels a bit more planted in the bends.

Leeski,

You did the STR-T's with the standard springs?
And did the ride hight change? Live in Amsterdam, and don't want to hit the massive speedbumps in town. So lowering is not an option!

Thanks!

Hi, I did use the standard springs - I'm trying to make it a tad more comfortable, nothing more. I don't know if it lowered it at all, it was dark last night when I drove it home, and I'm now back at university until mid February, but I'll have a look when I'm back if you want. I shouldn't think it would make a lot of difference to the ride height.

Best way to improve the ride on the 100hp is to go into the garage and fetch the Dynamic 1.2 out and enjoy the supple ride over bumps. Works for me.

Oh if only I had another car. Anyway, the 100HP is much more fun, and I'm young so the ride is bearable!

If you opt for Konis, check the diameter of the top bush bore. If it's 12mm, you may need to get some metal tube 12mm od by 10mm id by 32mm long, two off as the top bolt might be a weedy 10mm size. You can check the dia of the bolt with the wheel off by unscrewing it about 6 turns. The top bolt probably has a 15mm spanner size.

Old thread revival.

a year on I have finally got some str.t for the rear. going to fit them soon.

I've read a few posts about the Bush and the need for a metal tube with the above dimensions but is this just for the top Bush.

on my dampers the top and bottom Bush look like 12mm diameter.

can someone assist.

would a steel tube be better then Cooper(weak) bearing in mind it's part of the suspension
