Bought a panda 100hp about a month ago (1 owner 27k miles)which I am very pleased with in all respects. The gearbox crunches ever so slightly when cold (which I know is normal) and was thinking of changing the gearbox oil to Redline MT85 which is a 75w85 oil, the same as Tutela Technyx which is the oil recommended in the manual. (I filled my X1/9 gearbox with MT90 and it worked wonders and eliminated all crunches even when cold).
Has anybody done this and is the MT85 oil compatible with the 100hp? Any advice please..Thanks

I changed my panda sportting gear oil when I got it for 75W90 Motorquip GL5

I thought early gearboxes say pre 89 were distroyed by gear oil with EP?

MT90 appears to be GL4 rated EP... are you sure you are not disolving away the white metal internals of the gearbox? don't go by what the shop / manufacurer says.

I did a lot of research before using MT90 in my X1/9. It's rated for EP and non EP and doesn't destroy the gears like other modern oils would. This info was gleaned by the highly knowledgeable 'jimbro1000' from the X1/9 forum and I also contacted a chap at redline oil to discuss it with him before filling the gearbox. It makes a world of difference to shifting gears. I'll let you know in a few years time if my gearbox is still in one piece as I only do about 2k miles in it each year!

MT90 is not a true EP oil like GL5 oils. They have lower amounts of EP additives and are therefore compatible with older gearboxes..A GL5 oil has high amounts of EP additives and would therefore damage all the susceptible metals in older gearboxes..

Tutela technyx (oil specified in the manual) is a GL4 plus 75W85 oil (didn't know GL4 'plus' existed!) and MT90 is a GL4 75W90 oil..I wonder if they are compatible?

Which model and viscocity and is it easy to do on the driveway without a ramp?

Gavv8 has a 100HP, but the job is 95 % identical on any panda ( of any age),

ramps make it easier, but one wheel up a kerb, or on a block is sufficient to get the necessary clearance, ;)

would recommend a syringe , rather than a funnel + tube though:yuck::D

Its a pretty simple job but you really need to keep the car as flat and level as possible to get the correct amount of fluid in the box, the 100hp does need synthetic fluid and i used Fuchs titan sintofluid 75w/80w.

I am thinking of using Motul 75w-90 as I used in my Subaru or Silkolene Syn5 75w-90.
I guess these will be compatible and will provide better protection when warm?
How many lt are needed?
Thanks guys!

Edit: I found the capacity is 1.65lt.

Actually the Sintopoid 75w-85 is the correct spec so should stick with that I think:

I replaced the oil yesterday and although the old one came out honey coloured and looked like it didn't need changing, it has made a noticeable difference when the car is cold, the gears can be selected more easily/smoothly without being notchy.

Another job ticked off the list :D

Now out of curiosity I searched oil for 100hp gear box and all the searches came back as a GL4 oil. Now an oil GL5 may be up to a fiat accepted spec on the tin, but that doesn't mean it's the right oil for your particular gear box

Just clicked on your site it doesn't mention 100hp just fiat. But that could be me not using the site properly ,,,,, for what it's worth we carnt use GL5 in citroen2cv gear boxes either because of its sychro "eating" qualities :bang:

GL5 can corrode yellow metal parts but I expect (see hope) a 100HP's box to be slightly more modern than a 2CV's one :D
