Hey guys :)

Me again! So I decided to do a little mod today on the air box because quite frankly I did not want to pay 100 euro+ for a carbon air box (Carbon Air Box). So I decided to modify the original box!

In the pictures, you can see that the insides of the intake has "walls". I am assuming this is for cancelling noise? Anyway long story short, I removed those walls completely from the intake to give more freedom to air.

For the intake pipe, I cut it down so that the air before the element gets in quicker (logically how I see it, maybe I am wrong).

All in all, a quick spin around 80km/h zones near my estate and it feels like it is pulling more. Could be my imagination though. Either way, my Sunday so far has been spent well :p

I will be getting a BMC panel filter for it in a week or two and see if that helped the air flow.

I take it back!

Hitting 3k rpm and the engine sounds really deep and loud when I was on the motorway this morning. It may have been because the wind was going against me so the intake was getting more in.
But when I put the foot down and 3k hit, wow what a sound!

Well this sort of mod used yield great results on Cinquecento Sporting which was the same engine .You might also be able to cut a slot out of bumper to get more cold air in but watch out for floods / road spray in rain etc .And any mod that can be seen by assesors would invalidate your insurance in the event of a (big) crash/claim .
I had an 1108cc Panda loan car while my 100hp was having sump replaced after hitting a grapefruit sized rock on ground (hidden in slush ).I can say hand on heart that in many respects it was the better car not least tight ,slow speed handling ( roundabouts) , ride , red line thrashability (100hp torque maxes out round 4250rpm if not lower) and obviously mpg .
My 2005 Panda MJ should hit 150k this month .

Nice to see a fellow Irish person on this :)

I have to say, I am very happy to do that modification to the intake. It has a lot more noise after 3k rpm and now that I am driving on the M50 everyday (now that I got my full licence :D ), I get to hear it pretty much everyday.

I was actually contemplating about making a hole in the badge-less grill I have where the air goes in and replace it with something like this and add a mesh so that no big chunks fly in.
But I kinda feel that if I add that, I will have to wear a really bad looking baseball cap in a very elevated way and wear a tracksuit that is a size too small and walk with my hands down my pants... lol
