hi there my panda 1.1 is ticking sounds like valve clearance problem, having checked the shim gaps they seem ok, any ideas what else it could be?

I don't have a lot of knowledge when it comes to engines but I have heard of "knock"? Possibly the timing of the pistons are not in sync with the spark (or explosion) during the combustion phase of the engine? Just throwing it out there

the fuel injectors make a " tick" as they activate.. fairly audible..,

valve train issues are NOT common,
my 1.1 has done 80K miles in my ownership.. VERY solid,

maybe try CAREFULLY,
using a metal tube ( screwdriver?) as a "stethoscope"

that'll help pin-point where the sound is coming from ( if mechanical)

mines done over 100 thousand and buy the looks the shims have been adjusted regular, a mate said it could be followers tappet shims possibly even stretched valves at the moment only he knows, nice if he let me in it.thanks any way
