My 2007 Multijet Panda is in need of some new rear brake shoes. Mintex (and others) list 2 types of Shoes for my car with two different fitting kits. One is for cars with ABS and one for cars without ABS; http://www.brakebook.com/bb/mintex/en_GB/PKW/35/5055_Series/17640/applicationSearch.xhtml

I'm confused as my Panda has ABS but from the factory it looks like it has the fitting kit that belongs on a non-ABS car. Should I be buying the non ABS shoes and fitting kit or the ABS shoes and fitting kit?

Dave.

Apologies for not answering your question, but out of interest how many miles did you get out of them?

I kept my last Panda until 85k and they were still had meat on them- is wear the reason for change or contamination/ damage?

Does your dash display a yellow light, prob with the letters ABS, when you first turn on the key.
If you have Abs, it should.

... And that didn't really answer your query either. All it did was (hopefully) confirm what you already know. Apologies.

Personally, if you are certain your car has Abs, I would order the shoes accordingly. The worst that could happen would be that you would have to exchange them.

Take care with the self-adjusters.
Most self-adjusters are very robust bits of kits that can be levered and poked.
The panda rear brake adjuster is a fiendishly clever affair but is very fragile.
The toothed wheel is actually a ratchet ( you have to look really closely when it is off the car) but made of a low yield steel and is easily damaged with a screwdriver.
Any poking around the self-adjuster with a screwdriver can dislodge the little plate that drives the ratchet.
The Haynes manual is not much use ( as you would expect) so take your own photos before you pull it apart.

I have stripped one side down tonight to check the shoes and fitting kit. It appears the shoes are of the ABS variety but the springs and retainers are of the non-ABS variety so I have ordered the same. This is defianetely how it left the factory.
daveofkent The car has just turned 135k miles. There is still meat on the shoes but I have been having issues with the handbrake so I think now is the time to get them changed.
Sweetsixteen Yes, I get an ABS light that stays lit for a second or so and then goes out.

@gourdrons Cheers for the advise. Personally, for years I have used Unipart for all my car parts but they have recently gone bust. I now use Euro Car Parts, or more specifically CarParts4Less which is owned by ECP. I will keep it in mind though.
richardllew Cheers for the heads up. How do the self adjusters actually work? Any advise on cleaning them up?

Thanks for the help, Dave.

Might be your adjusters that are causing your handbrake problems
The mechanism is too unusual to fully describe with words but it is ratchet nut on a stud
Spend some time studying it when it's off, it's very clever,
