Hello there,

I was changing the oil on my 07 Panda 1.2 Dynamic the other day, something I have done a hundred times. However, on this occasion when I gave the engine a little rev after replacing the oil and filter a torrent of oil pissed all over my driveway. It really was making quite a serious gurgling as it ruined my crazy paving.

I immediately switched off the engine and have had it trailered to Concorde Autocentre.

I was wondering if this is something anybody else has had a problem with. If a seal or gasket has catastrophically failed, why did it not fail before now? Why would new oil tip it over the edge?

I filled it with 10w40 2.8 litres and replaced the oil filter. Could it be I didn't tighten it enough (quarter turn past tight) It really was draining out like a tap. It really sounded like it was a hole you could poke a finger in.

Did you make sure the old rubber seal came off with the old oil filter? If not, that could well be the cause of your problem. It's probably nothing serious; if something breaks after you've been fiddling with it, you probably broke it. Well, that's the approach I always take anyway :p.

Yes, the new filter went on with a finger film of new oil on it. However, I seriously cannot recall whether the old filter came off with the old seal. Maybe in the morning I will fish out the old oil filter and see. I bloody hope that it is missing and it is still on the car. I've got two kids and I'm living hand to mouth. I've just spend £90 towing it to the garage!

I fished it out and the old seal came off with the old filter. Still, I hoping that it is some humiliating but cheap repair rather than a astronomical repair that is no fault of my own. Like Matt says, its probably something I did. Let's hope its cheap.

There are only two places I can think of that oil would reasonably pour out of after an oil change; the sump plug hole and the oil filter hole. I'm guessing there's something wrong with either the fitting of the sump plug or the fitting of the filter (or both).

Yep, I've had this happen but 3 months down the line! I've done about 5000 miles since and it seems alright.
