I know this daft, but where is the oil filler hole/point on a 2005 Panda. I know where the dipstick is, but I seem not to be able to spot the oil filler hole to top off the oil level. (Hmm, perhaps I need to go to Specsavers....):D

On my 1.4 it's next to the dipstick and has a yellow (off all colours:D) cap.
Can't be far off on a 1.2 or 1.1 I reckon. Next to the plastic cover/airbox on the right (left when standing in front of the car) and in/on the valvecover.

Happy hunting!

Left side of cam cover as you look at the engine from the front (timing belt end) - a square black cap (on mine) - set into the cover - (to hide it) - lift that - pour :)
It is disguised as anything but an oil filler lol. ;)

Hi guys, sorry to resurrect this subject.

Today, with the bonnet up I checked the oil level. We bought the 2004 1.2 Panda from Daughter 2 a couple of months ago. She's had it from brand new and it's done 106,000miles +. She told me it uses a bit of oil and to keep an eye on it.

So, to that end, I checked the oil level and it was at the lower end of the dipstick marks. There was a bottle of oil in the boot, so I looked to find where to pour it in!

Where? for goodness sake! I saw the square plastic thingy but it wouldn't lift or turn. I got out the Fiat handbook and even the Haynes Manual, but although they pointed to this square thingy, there was no instruction on how to open it.

I pulled, because it wouldn't turn. I pulled HARDER and it sort of lifted to one side. I asked Mrs Mick F to try as she doesn't have a technical bone in her body, so I thought I was over-thinking the issue. She couldn't shift it at all.

I put all of my strength to it, and eventually managed to weedle it out. Poured in some oil, let it settle, and now the level is mid-range.

Then, I tried to re-fit the cap. No matter how I tried, it wouldn't go in all the way, so I fished out a small rubber mallet and gave it a whack ........ and in it went.

So, my question is, what the heck is going on that an oil filler cap is SO difficult?
Have anyone else had this proplem?

Thanks,
Mick.

Hi Mick

Its Rubber.. or at least 19 years ago that is how it started its life.. its been
' cooked' for hundreds of hours

Ive owned these from virtually new... like on orange rubber bung they are pliable

At 15 years in service they are more like coal

If you buy a 'new one' it will probably have been moulded @2011 :-(

When those 55/60 hp motors finished.. and everthing went 'screwcap' ;-)

Push on oil filler cap is Fiat part number 7545141

Sump pan is under £30 if you need one. Fiat part 7762432. eBay is full of them but impossible to know if they are any good. This is Shop 4 parts-

Good morning guys.
Just come in from the garden cutting the grass.

Earlier this morning, I gave Daughter2 a lift to work, and I asked her about the oil filler cap, and she said you just pull it off. I told her it took me ten minutes to get it off and needed a mallet to get it back in!

Thanks for the eBay link and part number. I may buy one.

Mick.

Mine was the same pain to open the cap, and even worse to fit it back.
HAve a spare bought , non original but looks good quality, I think Febi Bilstein manufactures that and retail for less than 5 euros in Oscaro (french website)
Best regards
