After discovering an earthing problem with the rear passenger light, I booked Dez in to get it looked at. Basically the rear light is flashing when the indicator is on. The problem has been traced to the 5 point plug connecting the rear light assembly. Unfortunately, the plug itself is only available from Fiat as part of the wiring loom (@ £600). Needless to say, I don't have that kind of money to spend, so I phoned around some scrappies to see if I could source the part. Unsurprisingly, given the treatment of the above Panda, there were no Pandas available...

I'm going to pick up Dez tomorrow as I simply can't afford that type of repair. Hoping that the diagnosis doesn't cost me a fortune.

Is this type of problem likely to be a problem for MoT? Dez will be due his MoT at the end of next month.

Anyone got any spares lying around?

BTW they did attempt a repair on it, but it won't hold...

Hi smurf
There is a roofless panda in Braga Portugal, I could probably get them to chop the plug off, leave a foot of tails to splice in to old loom?
I am sure there will be one nearer ? Didn't some lad get a back box and a wheel the other day?
If you can't get a better offer, take a PIC of the plug and I will drive over.and see if I can get just the plug....
I went for roof bars as they were mint.. When I got there they had sold the bars and the freeking roof :D

Why on earth would someone want the roof off a Panda???

I'll have to wait till I get Dez back to get a pic...

Did u note the reg plate !!:eek::eek::cry::cry:

Mind u... Probably got pulled for fairy lights, hids, and blacked our rear lights :rolleyes:

Yeah, MEP showed me that one a few weeks back. It was probably a bit younger than mine (but you can never tell with Norn Iron cars as the reg numbers were given out to dealers and not necessarily used in order...

Yeah some go for that chavvy blacked out dim-wit rear lights look here too and don't have enough foresight to put in brighter bulbs!

Hiya Smurf,
Well, had a trip to Mr Fiat today, they have the terminal pins in stock for the connector. not the plug though - I am presuming this is the 5 pin to rear light cluster ?

Anyways, any good sparks should be able to remove the old female pins and do a cut back and re-crimp / refit these new ones.
Sorry about the crap photos, still got the tele lens on the camara and std is at new house, macro is crap on the tele...,,,

SO, we can get new connectors no worries at all - all in stock - show pics to your sparks, he should be easily able to sort it. Otherwise, plan B, I will go and try and get you the plug and a decent length of tails.

Here are the pics, the female crimp terminal - shown here - for your plug is about 20mm long ...

My phone can manage better close up shots than that, so much for fancy cameras haha :p!

This morning I went and picked up Dez. Didn't have to pay a thing which was very decent. I'd been driving around in a brand new 500 Lounge for a couple of days too! And then to work a bit later than usual (Hurray for flexi-time) and some creative Panda parking as the car-park was full...

I did a bit more research last night and found a few more smaller scrappies to ring around. By some kind of miracle, one of them did indeed have a Panda in stock with the required plug. So flexi-time kicked in again early and off I went at 3.30pm, lol. Was starting to doubt my sense of direction when I seemed to be heading down little more than a lane-way for more than a mile, but indeed I had gone the correct way! I followed the owner into the yard and what was left of the Panda was almost the first car in there. It looked like it had been a Sporting as I could see under all the junk in it that the seats were red, but it had been fully stripped really. Got the bit for £5.

Husband looked doubtfully at it when I brought it home, but he quickly stripped the pins out and then got the socket set out, removed the light fitting and stripped the pins out of the plug in the car. He gave the contacts a bit of a rub-down and then fitted them into the plug. Then I tried the lights and everything works fine again! :D

First time I'd ever taken the rear light off on my car. It's still got all the original bulbs fitted almost nine years on! It's a bit of a bugger to push back on again!

:worship: Thanks Cap for looking for me, but thankfully all is now sorted! (y)

Must say that I'm quite surprised by the lack of Pandas in the local scrapyards here...

Nice one Smurf, really chuffed for ya !...
If ya ever need any weird and wonderful parts let me know if you are stuck - the dealers here have an amazing stock of spares and will adapt and mend almost anything. He was quote willing to give you a full set of pins FOC.
We have specific rules here re scrapyards etc, a car has to be LEGALLY scrapped - if someone doesnt do it properly, they will ekep on paying tax until it is too old to be taxed !.
Basically, the yard take all things they believe are valuable off the car - they leave whats left in the yard for a while then it is sold as scrap metal - during that period - anything on it can be bought for next to nothing.
Anyways, I found this for you, :D

 If mine is ever in need of a roof, I think it'll be new car time for me!

I just don't think that if the crumple zones were ever compromised in my car, that I would be that happy putting my kids in it. It's just not worth it!

Mind you, my youngest seems to be testing his own crumple zones rightly at school over the last few weeks... Injuries include two front teeth knocked loose (but thankfully have resettled), cut nose, black eye and today a badly grazed cheek... P1 must be tough :(
