Not IMHO, the steering in the Panda/500 is never going to be full of feel with it being EPS, but the artificial heaviness just ruins it. I went karting the other day for the first time and the steering was heavy after driving a 500 and Panda for the last 5 years, but it had feel, the 100hp's steering is good for what it is, but not good compared to an older car with hydraulic power steering.

Hi guys, I think you will find it is not 'artificial heaviness' - it is actually the opposite.
Pull the fuse for the EPS, the steering will nearly break your arms....
The EPS does FAR too much in my opinion on ALL pandas, it does a good job generally, but would imho, be FAR better if steering geometry was such that it could be driven fairly normally without power - it cannot really it is aweful.
So, your power is actually artificially Lightening the steering ...

They are tryng to do too much with it me thinks... for a sports car - even a mild one, I would prefer a well setup geometry with slight assistance - or none.

Yep typical...comparing a go-kart steering with a road car..the usual drivel, steering on the panda is great.

it's my opinion :) I've driven a load of cars with traditional power steering and some without power steering and all were better than the 100hp, the 100hp is still better than most but imho the sport button makes it worse.

Not to be funny but you do seem to enjoy teaching people how to suck eggs. I have had the eps not kick in on my 500 due to low battery charge and i can say that the steering is bloody heavy, the Panda's sport button doesn't make for more feel IMHO.

You are not reading correctly - again !.
I said the steering is HEAVY - without power ! - you said it gave it artificial heaviness with power - it does not - it lightens it - which is what I said..
I never said it gave it more feel !
READ THE REPLY before jumping in dude. sheesh - twice today...
Dont choke on your egg old boy.. or, lay off the sauce. (y)
You seem to need teaching !

So what happens when you press the sport button? Does it get heeavier or lighter?
It gets slightly less power assistance than without the sport button
But is still massively powered. It is not artificial heavyness !! - quite the opposite. simply less of the huge amount of 'artificial' 'lightness'

I think what CS is saying is the steering is very heavy with no power, in normal mode the system makes it very light, and in sports mode it backs off the assistance, so it therefore "feels heavier".

Of course, but the thing is that unlike with a car with hydraulic power steering or one with no ps at all, that extra effort doesn't equate to any extra feel in terms of what the contact patch is doing. So that's where the artificial heaviness comes from....

To get back to the original question - the 100HP has a Bosch engine management module, which - as far as I know - is unique to the model, so it's not identical to the other 1.4 16v engines.

Its mounted in the same place and visually looks identical to other 1.4 16v's, so I'd be surprised if this is the case.

Still, different ecu must mean some difference
Yes, a number.. ;) - no real performance difference. the punto 1.4 16V has the same series Bosch system as well. - it s not like the 100hp panda is a 'special version' engine - it is a standard 1.4 16V. A reasonable exhaust and a decent induction to start with.
As I said before, many 100 hp's are actually 95 ps out of the factory.
It all depends on what you want to do with said engine - if it was to fit it to a panda, I can see no reason why even the standard 1.2 ecu would not work with suitable changes to cable throttle and appropriate sensors. It all depends how much work you are prepared to do. - often holes are in the whong place ;) - but usually can be added.. castings tend to be same base.
The differenc in the Punto ecu and the panda ecu may well be the throttle response change on 'sport' only - which wouldnt be a deal breaker.
It is basically the same engine.
