Hi Guys/Girls,

I'm looking at getting a 100hp as a cheap runaround thats also fun to drive, i've got a budget of around £3k. I've seen a nice blue one on ebay for £3250 ono (I'm not allowed to post the link due to insufficient posts) was wondering if anyone could have a quick look at the advert and see if it seems reasonable for the price?

Thanks

Adam.

Good colour and I can't see anything obviously wrong, the price is about right for the age and mileage but you will need to know if the cambelt and waterpump has been done and if not knock the £250 off to have it done straight away.

Yeah thats the only thing that bothers me about it, the fact it dosen't mention the cambelt.

I would find out where the missing year went to ;) - it 'might' have sat around for a year.. or...... who knows....

I would be walking away or making some very interesting phone calls

Send me the money that you just saved in a large brown envelope....... (y) - or the money you get off the price lol...

Of course, Fiat could have it all wrong.........................................
11 months is rather a long time...

there is always an overlap with things like trim / badges etc

Cars do sit around sometimes for quite a time, that is why I started the thread below, but, just about a year is too much for my liking, unless of course he will deal and deal a lot, what some folk think mentally of as an almost 2009 car is in fact a 2007.
I smell a rat, sorry... but..
Maybe the front half is 2008 lol :D - (Jokin' !!)

A 100HP in Chesterfield that ive never seen before, not that it means much but its not a big place. If you have any doubts just walk away theres plenty about.

The dates would be enough doubt for me to scratch that one. but, everyone has their own levels of acceptance. As you say, plenty more.. you may just have to wait a wee while.

Cap.

I dont think 100HP's stood about for long. I had to wait about 3 months for mine to be built as there was none in stock.

That is exactly what I would have expected to find !, the high spec models moving rapidly..
Probably fell of the back of a lorry - literally  - damaged in transit and sent back for repairs. even then 11 months ! ??? does not compute...
If it was registered in Europe - anywhere - before uk, (S Ireland etc) it would show on the fiat computer - it doesnt - !

I would love to stick MES on it and trace the import path to the first stealer... :D

'Looking up the definition of paranoia'.....a HPI check will tell you everything you need to know and this whole date of registration/when it was built thing is irrelevant, if necessary employ the services of a good mechanic to check the car over for you.
The things I noticed first are a fully stamped up service history and the correct and good quality tyres, both imply pride of ownership and an owner willing to spend money on the car, this is a good thing.

Agreed on the tyres (unless they were nicked to order lol) :D (joke !!! - had to mention that in case some PC tree hugger got upset)
Service histories, paf, unless you can locate the dealer and check, and are prepared to, service histories can be bought of ebay and 'other places' . most towns have several 'outlets' of quality stamps and details from the bare service books they buy, a made to order history - I am not for one minut suggesting this car has anything like that, what I am suggesting is ANY car can have a forged history, tyres and wheels gleaming from a previous nights 'night time reparing of a church roof yer honour' - Mot mileage checks are NOT really that helpful (but worth doing), however, the equipment for a 12 year old to clock a car prior to each mot hence a 'rolling' clock is readily available and cheap, and simple to use. IF the car has just had new tyres, one would expect a fastidious owner to have the receipt(s) etc.. also receipts for service - not a simple 50 p stamp in a 5 quid book from ebay.
Hence, conclusion, one can only go off condition alone at the time of test. You have more protection if buying from a stealer, but will probably pay far more.
Caveat emptor.
and the big one, ANY doubts or niggles or non - happy feelings, walk away.
HPI can not tell you if its a ringer, if the service history is accurate, if it has been maintained correctly... merely if anyone owes any dosh on it..
It is a minefield..
The guy with the beemer M3 was on about selling his saucer in the summer (nearly there - (we are here) so that might be worth looking at)

spoke to the guy selling and it may be sold already, the whole manufacture date dosen't really worry me too much to be honest aslong as it's a well cared for example with the correct history. It's only a cheap car anyway at the end of the day.

How on earth can you say that re the 'well cared' for and 'correct history'
You can only ascertain that after you have had it fully inspected (unless you are confident in doing that) and the service history properly verified
It is not CHEAP, it is over priced !, and, 'it may be sold already' is the oldest line in the book.
PLEASE look at others, if it goes it goes, Car buying mistake 101, go for what you see first....

A HPi check is vital in my opinion to find out if the car has been involved in any insurance claims and crucially if it has outstanding finance.
I don't think its overpriced either.

I don't really know what you mean, obviously i would view it and have it checked via HPI or similar if i were to consider buying it, as i said the guy says hes taken a deposit so unless that sale falls through it's irrelivent anyway. Being a qualified mechanical engineer and having worked on various cars over the past 10 years or so as a hobby i'm fairly certain i could say whether or not it had been looked after if i were to view it.

Thanks

Adam.
