Hello!

This is my second panda (a 09 plate). My previous (a 07 plate) had the same issue before it got totalled by someone pulling out on me.

Occasionally when it gets very cold (I think possibly when it has got dramatically colder from not being so?) the car will start as normal, and as expected, but *refuse* to rev any higher than 2000rpm, that is with my foot down all the way, and when I do so it isn't pulling away. It took it until it was solidly warm and some very slow gear changes to get it going - and then it was perfectly fine and happy as it is normally.

This had happened with my other panda previously so I'm not sure if it's a Panda issue, or a FIAT issue, or a Me issue!

I did a bit of googling and saw some posts on the forum mentioning a turbo thingy that might need cleaning or something similar? I had no engine lights or anything.

Any help really would be MUCH appreciated!

Thank you

Sophie

I would suggest you ask around family and friends for a good garage or dealer and take the car in for investigation.

It would also help if you supply more information.
What was the apx temperature when the fault occurred, ?
Did / does the temperature gauge behave as normal, - it rose from zero to mid point over a period of time. ? - it doesnt, for example, read normal when cold ?

it is possibly temperature sender related, or, waste gate actuator assembly on the turbo or the waste gate itself in the exhaust turbo housing.
A diagnostic on the ecu nodes may reveal more information, this can only be done by someone with the right equipment or a fiat dealer.
Sorry I cannot help more Sophie.
Cap.

Hello!

I'm sorry, I don't know what apx temperature means?

Temperature gauge responded completely as per normal, if perhaps anything got to the mid point earlier than expected with it being as cold as it was this morning.

I just wanted to try and find a way of fixing it that was free rather than expensive!

Hi Sophie, before getting to far in, could you tell us which engine your car has? A 1.1petrol;a 1.2 petrol or a 1.3 diesel?

Dave

Hi Sophie,
I meant the approximate temperature outside ?

If the gauge is reacting faster than normal - it could be the temperature sender unit on the engine that is tricking the car into thinking it is warmer than it is. This would alter the fuelling of the car until normal temperature was reached.
But, of course, that is just a logical assumption.
It could be many things, unfortunately, nothing I can think off that you can fix at no cost with little knowledge.
Hope you get it sorted.

Hi Sophie.

Does this happen after rain? Also is your car a little smoky when this happens? The reason why I ask is that there can be a bit of water ingress through the little screwhole in the middle of the black plastic piece under the windscreen wipers. Open the bonnet and you'll see it. If you apply some silicone to this screwhole, it will stop water getting in and solve your problem.
Hopefully this is the kind of quick cheap fix you're after. ;)

Nice one Smurf !(y)
I hope that's the case, it would be a great fix !
Is that common on the oiler ?
You will star if it sort it - fingers crossed ! :worship:

Yes it's common one with the diesel. There's been a few with this problem. When the water gets in, you get no acceleration till the engine clears it. It's definitely not a good feature when you come out of the work car park and try to go up a steep hill to go home. I had to pull in one day as mine refused to go above 5mph!
