Right for Matt here is how I did it. It is a bit guess work here and there but it does work!
So I drive a 08 plate Fiat Panda 100hp, no sub woofer, bluetooth and mp3 head unit. I wanted to run my IPhone through the stereo. I had read a few things and it sounded straight forward, I have done it today and it is working fine, took about 2-3hrs or so.
I am not very technical so I will be referring to the blue and red wires rather then what they actually do. I have a load of pics though so that should help.
First. Here is the cable I got from ebay
It has the big IPhone connector suitable for a 3 and the 4 I think.
2. The back of my stereo and wire diagram layout.
So this is my set up and I know they can be different. So here is what I did. Just to explain I did play with the stereo to see what happened when I disconnected things and which did and didn't work. Basically the blue block seems to be the steering controls and part of the bluetooth and phone connecter, the green has a number of other thing including the phone interrupt that turns off the stereo when dialling and the yellow does sweet f-all!
With all my playing and some reading from this forum I decided to dismantle the cable I had bought. As it was it would not plug and play so was basically useless in this form.
Now there may be a clever way to do this, but I used a dremmel! That took it from this…
To this…
Now if we look here there are 3 spare pins in the stereo, which correspond with the yellow plug.
So I tried this.
So for those not seeing what I have done, I have kept the 3 wires from the adaptor and plugged them in to the 3 spare sockets, maintaining their relative positions.
This worked and the stereo ran the IPhone as an aux input, with a double press of the cd button. So I finally did this.
This looks easy but I took a lot of time doing it because if you get it wrong, you will struggle to get the wires back out of the yellow block so…
PLAN IT CAREFULLY!
The most important is the middle one, green on my cable, the other two are left and right, so if they are swapped and you adjust the balance it is opposite. Mine did play with only the green wire attached, it was much better with all 3!
I had already fed the cable to the floor at this point so it was a case of pushing the stereo back in to place and voila!
The cable does seem to have power wires too, but I decided to quit while i was ahead and look at that another day to see if I can get it to charge as well.
I hope that helps. It genuinely does work, I have not done a drive with it all in place, as I only did it today, but it does play through the stereo. Cant skip tracks though, the control for the music is still done on the phone.
Hope that all helps!
BTW: just to screw me over I got a new IPhone 5c and of course the connector is different! I will be getting an adaptor and if anyone is interested will give some feedback here.
PEACE OUT!
