Hi There,

My panda has developed an oil leak so i took it to a couple of garages to get some quotes on the cost of repair.

Kwix Fit quoted over £500 just to replace the oil sump!
I then took it to a couple of other one-man garages and suggested i provide the parts (Oil is cheap from euro car parts and i have seen oil sumps online for under £40). Both garages quotes around 100-150 for the job which I thought was much more like it.
I then took it to my trusted garage who does all my work (just the route i took) who then let me have a look under the car to see what the problem was. they suggested that in order to remove the sump they would have to remove the gearbox - hence why Kwik Fit quoted so much!

My question is has anyone had this problem or has anybody replaced the oil sump in a panda multijet and if so - was it an easy job ie could i do it myself.

Any info would be greatly apreciated as there are quite a few issues i have and if it does cost £500 then I may as well replace the car which I dont want to do because of a) expense and b) I LOVE my Panda!!!

Thanks in advance!

The Haynes manual (5558) says that the exhaust pipe bracket and the bracket joining the transmission to the cylinder block and also the coverplate from the base of the transmission bellhousing must be removed. Then the sump can be removed. No mention of removing the gearbox. The lower quotes sound reasonable for the labour.

i took a deep look at my punto multijet last week (same thing different jacket) to ascertain sump removal and it looked very involved not least because of rusted fixings
i also deduced that it was impossible to do without pulling gearbox off but would be glad to be proved wrong
